Only had this gateway since early May of 2012. Ran fine until the end of December.
Then, one day, in the midst of gaming with my SO, the gateway completely shut itself off. The surge protector still had a green light and I could hear something whirring inside the gateway housing (heat sink/cooling fan of some kind?), but all the lights on the gateway were dead (as was my wifi and internet connections).
This was a new occurence with this router/modem, but, as with past routers and modems, I simply unplugged it and gave it a few minutes. I replugged it in and it seemed to boot up fine - hardline connections seemed to have no issues.
But the WiFi signal strength had suddenly dropped drastically. It had dropped so severely that I couldn't maintain a wireless connection outside the same room that the gateway was infor more than a few minutes before it would cut out entirely. And it's been like this since then, despite multiple gateway reboots.
I've read at least one other posting in these forums that sounds eerily similar to mine ( http://forums.att.com/t5/Setup-and-Self-Install/2w
I would really like a fix for this. I've had this 2Wire router/modem for barely more than 6 months. It worked WONDERFULLY until this wifi die-off.

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"
