At my house we do not use the 2WIRE as a router because it does not work (defective I guess) so we have 2 APPLE AIRPORT EXTREMES as well as an AIRPORT EXPRESS. One Airport is on 5Ghz, one is on standard, and the express is used to boost signal. Our network consists of one PC (active), one MACBOOK (active), 2 Playstation 3's (active), one laptop (rarely active), and one iPad (rarely active). Streaming video is so slow and choppy, worse than COMCAST on their worst day. To fix this problem I figured out all we need to do is put the device on DMZPlus or create user-defined applications to open up the ports we need. However the PS3's need those ports for online gaming.
The 2WIRE is still the master controller for internet settings (firewall, pinholes, dmz). If I put my PC on DMZPlus, awesome. And if I create user-defined applications for the MACBOOK, awesome. HOWEVER, the PS3's need those ports for faster gaming. But the 2WIRE will not allow the PS3's to have the user-defined applications (ports opened) because that would then "conflict" with the user-defined ports opened up for the MACBOOK. Ok, so I try to put the PS3's in DMZPlus. That doesn't work, either because my PC is on DMZPlus. ONLY ONE MACHINE CAN BE IN DMZPLUS. Only ONE MACHINE can have specific user-defined applications. No matter what we do, the settings will cause at least 2 of our active machines to be slowed down. This was NOT a problem with COMCAST, and the COMCAST package was for a slower internet speed.
What is the deal? What can I do to get what I pay for? Can I put more than one machine on DMZPlus somehow? Or can I somehow bypass the 2WIRE for all settings and make my AIRPORT EXTREME the "home base" for all my configurations, thus getting what I pay for?
Thanks for the information.

Hi,
I apologize you are having these issues. The 2Wire only allows one computer/device in DMZ mode. If you would like to bypass the firewall and set it up using your apple airport extreme, you could use the following link to put your 2Wire into bridge mode. This will basically bypass the 2Wire completely and only use it for it's modem capabilities. This means however that the only device that you could plug into the 2Wire would be your Router, everything would then need to be plugged/wirelessly connected to your router. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Instructions on how to bridge your modem are here < http://support.2wire.com/?page=view&article=22&tex
Thank you,

Those instructions do not apply to my modem. At least I don't think they do. The instructions are as follows:
To place a residential gateway into bridge mode for firmware version 3.7 or lower:
- Click homeportal/management.
- Click Configure Services.
- Deselect Enable Routing.
- Click Submit.
NONE OF THESE OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE ON MY ROUTER SETTINGS! If they are please direct me to them because I don't see them. Thanks.

I am having almost the same exact issues, I think. Please tell me how you were able to get around this?
I have my 2wire's wireless settings off, wire connected to an airport extreme which is in bridge mode wireless N 5ghz. I have 2 airport expresses wirelessly connected to the extreme's SSID and just act to extend the network.
My issue is when I plug in the cisco access point for my new wireless uverse receiver (I tried plugging it into BOTH the 2wire and the Airport Extreme), it seems to cause an IP conflict and grinds any internet activity to a halt. I have read the above and cannot figure out how to turn my 2wire into just a plain modem and turn on DHCP & NAT for my Airport Extreme. If there is another solution, please share!
I miss the days of Modem -> router -> internet
Devices needed to connect are:
3 Macbook Pros
2 iPads
2 iPhones
2 AppleTV's
1 Xbox 360
1 BluRay Player
1 G-Connect drive
1 U-Verse wireless reciever/access point combo
