We have a BB Bold 9000 for a little over a year now. The battery life has been fine until one day the battery wouldn't charge.
We went to the AT&T store and got a new battery (wow: $50 for an $8 battery) which caused the phone to work again, but
now we only get about 3/4 of a day on one charge. It's hard to remember how long it would go before, but it was more like
2 - days.
I've gone through all the apps on the phone and removed everything I didn't need. It have the WiFi turned on, as we use
that, but I disabled the GPS. Still, less than a day on the battery.
From a recent post on this forum, there was success with a similar problem by reinstalling the operating system. As we're
considering throwing away the phone and buying a new one at this point, reinstalling the OS doesn't seem like such a
bad option. Can anyone tell me where I can find information on how to do this? Can it be done from the BlackBerry desktop
manager application?
I really hope we can find a way to get back a usable battery life on this phone - we really like the phone and don't want
to have to switch.
Thanks,

i will try to walk you thru the install. ive never tried to give directions to someone else on here befor so here goes......
First open Blackberry Desktop software app on your computer. Connect the usb cable to your computer and your bb phone. make sure phone is powered up and ready to syncronize with your computer. first id recommend if you havent backed your phone up to do so now. to back up your phone go to the top of the blackberry desktop app, goto the three buttons at the top left and you should see Device, Tools, Media. click Device and a menu will pop up. look down the menu to find Back Up and click on it. make sure you back up like you normaly would. let it do its thing. but,if you are ready for the reinstall of the OS then go to the BB desktop app on your computer. look at the top of the page of the app you should see those same three (3) buttons on the left top. Device, Tools. Media. click on the Device button. The menu will pop up. Highlight and click the "Update" button. another page will come up that says at the top "Check for Updates". On this page at the lower left side there is a button that says "View other Versions" click on it and that will bring up another page that says "Select the Black Berry Device Software version you want to install." the current version installed on your phone should already have a check mark in the box next to the version. Click to Highlight it. At the bottom of this page you will see two(2) buttons. Install, and Cancil. ofcourse if you are ready to do the install then click Install. just by memory i think there will be another page that says "this may take up to an hour" or something like that. so just be ready to commit to it. mine took about 30 mins. then let it do its thing. please dont let the cable disconnect during the install. disconnect usb cable only when you see a message telling you it is safe to disconect the cable.

Thanks. I'm going to give this a try this weekend. I sure hope this resolves the battery issue.
I'll report back either way.
Best Regards,

We gave it a couple days to see if we could detect any improvement, but unfortunately we've seen none.
I've already made sure no unecessary applications are running. Is there anything else we can do to get the battery life
back to the 2-3 days we were getting before? Is the phone just broken?
Thanks,

Mark, IM sorry to hear that your efforts were unrewarded. If your phone is a year and half old it could be time to replace it. But that doesn't necessarily mean its over.... Maybe tech support may have some other ideas that would be useful? Maybe they could give a professional opinion if this is in fact the end of your 9000. Good luck

Also when you reinstalled the OS did you get the latest version?
Step 1:
With your smartphone
disconnected, click Check for Updates.
Step 2:
When prompted, save the plug-in.
Step 3:
After the plug-in is downloaded, open it and click Run to install the drivers.
Step 4:
When the application loader launches, connect your smartphone and select Next to start the update process.
If you receive the message that no updates are available after clicking on the Check for updates button, you may still be able to find software for your smartphone by visiting the software download site for your carrier. Find the software download site for your carrier.

WiFi and Blue Tooth are both on, but they've both been on since we purchased the phone. They both get used regularly, so
we wouldn't be able to turn them off when not in use.
For the update, I used the desktop manager software to check for updates and it states that we're already running the latest
version. I just reselected it and asked to install it. It went through about a 30 minute process, so I assume it reinstalled it as
promissed.
I will look at the other downloads plugins stuff when my Wife gets home with the phone.
Are you saying there is software newer than what is shown when I do a check for updates in the Desktop Manager software?
Why would that be? Where do those updates come from? Are they not "sanctioned" by AT&T? Why are they not shown in the
Desktop Manager software?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks. Both Desktop Manager and the Phone Status -> Options shows I'm currently running:
5.0 Bundle 1728 (v5.0.0.1067. Platform 5.2.0.89)
Which appears to be the latest.

I have an older BB9000 that I still use and don't have a problem with it not lasting through the whole day. Mine is maybe 3 years old. Bluetooth and WiFi are on all day with the GPS off on mine as well.
It may be time for a new device for you
