Anyone hear anything about this new Blackberry device? Or when AT&T finally plans on releasing it?

I won't wait much longer for this device. If AT&T doesn't release it soon, I'll take my number over to T-Mobile and get it!! ![]()

I'm sure the usual suspects (Boy Genius etc) have info on it.

As with any device -- no telling until they announce it. You can get rumors, again, from the usual suspects for what they're worth (not much).

My wife moved from Tmobile to ATT today because of Tmobile's changes on their billing of international data plans. We took her Tmobile Curve 8900 with us and it works perfectly on the ATT network. After unlocking it and inserting ATT SIM, some ATT programs even offered to install.
I own a Bold and think think that the one place that the Curve beats the Bold is battery life. The Bold's battery life isn't that good. I really wish ATT let us force the Bold to 2g. The one thing that I wish ATT had was UMA ("Hot Spots at Home"). The free call (outside the US) were the one thing that we will miss. Since we both have VOIP on our notebooks, I don't think it will be too big a deal.

I don't believe the declining sales on the BB Bold have anything to do with whether or not this device is actually released on AT&T. IMHO, the declining sales on the Bold have a lot to do with the 3G issues that continue to be a problem since it was released........ However, this is something that the Curve 8900 won't have a problem with, as it is a 2G phone only.

I have recently found some updated info on the BB 8900 that has given me a reason to wait just a little bit longer for it.
The new information that I have heard is; the service books for the 8900 have already been sent out, as of last week (4/6) testing for the 8900 was still in progress. Also, AT&T was in the process of finalizing issues with the hardware, as well as fixing/patching the trackball...............
June is the time frame in which I have heard, which makes sense, since T-Mobile had a 3 Month exclusive rights to this phone. Given the fact that T-Mobile released their version of the 8900 in Feb. that would put AT&T's release date at either May, or June. *** keeping my fingers crossed***

The info that is posted on BG website doesn't mean a whole lot to me anymore, after the botched release date that he gave last month for the Nokia E71X............ While I do believe that "rumors" should be taken with a grain of salt, until information about a specific device has been released from the carrier, I can honestly say that I have never been let down by a "rumor" before, and hope that the ones that I posted above aren't the first ones to do so.

Does she have any problems receiving text messages? I just got a t-mobile 8900 going on ATT and I can almost never get SMS messages from Verizon customers (I switched from VZ, with a short TMO pit stop). I'm thinking it's just a number porting issue but the ATT people are telling me TMO's GSM MAY be incompatible with ATT's and thus the phone. That sounds like garbage to me....

FYI there is actually no problem with using this phone on ATT. I eventually called up Verizon and told them to check to make sure my # was out of their system, and they told me everything was fine on their end and it was ATT's fault. But a couple of hours later the text messaging problem dissappeared. Hmmm. I don't understand why these companies have to be so unnecassarily underhanded.

I would appreciate it if we could leave the discussion of the BB Bold for another thread. Thanks. I created this one, so people like myself who are interested in the BB Javelin can keep up to date on its estimated time of arrival.
If anyone would like to see pictures of AT&T's Blackberry 8900 (Javelin), I found a few good ones posted here: http://gizmodo.com/photogallery/blackberrycurve890

I know what you mean!!! Good devices such as this one are always hard to wait for. However, as long as all the kinks are worked out of it before it hits the stores, I'm willing to wait a little longer. ![]()

Let's hope so. I managed to break my Pearl in Feb. due to a slip on the ice...and wound upgrading to an 8310 in hopes that the 89xx was going to be released in early March (within my 30 day return deal). No luck obviously... ![]()
Let's go ATT!

Let's go ATT!
When I was at the corporate store on Sunday, the store Rep. told me there were 2 new Blackberry devices being released soon. One was going to be a Pearl flip device, and the other was going to be a cross between the Bold and the Curve, and it would have 3G. While I do believe he was referring to the Javelin, as the one that was in between the Bold and the Curve, I think he was wrong about it being a 3G capable device. If the Javelin is like the 8900 that T-Mobile is currently using on their network, it will only have EDGE. This is just fine with me, as I am getting good data speeds now while using the Bolt browser on my Curve 8310.

I can't complain much about my 8310 though, as it serves its purpose very well and was a nice change from the Pearl. But living with an iPhone in the house too (not that this is to be a comparison or debate over the two)....let's get up with the times already.

I don't think the store reps know much about bb. My local store sure doesnt. Most of the info I found was on crackberry. com. Everybody has been wrong so far on the date of release for this phone. I hope it comes soon since im using the unlock version of the Storm. It is crappy as heck even with the newest software from bb. It constantly drop to a non data version of edge.
I think the corporate store reps know a lot more about the release dates than they let on, but are not allowed to say anything. Although the corporate store that I go to has never given me an exact date, the reps. have always been correct when they said a particular phone that I was interested in would be out soon.

My Foundation Sales Rep told me it would be out in 2 months. Then again, he didn't know what an 8900 was. He knew it as a "Baby Bold".

Thanks for the link. I'm glad to see that they are leaving WiFi intact on the BB 8900. With third party browsers like Bolt, and Opera Mini, it really doesn't matter to me either that this device is only EDGE capable............ Just look at the BB Bold, which is a 3G device. There are many people that post on these forums who want to disable 3G on the Bold..........
Hurry up AT&T, I want my BB Javelin!! ![]()
