watching downloaded shows on plane???

I know this has more than likely been asked before but...why cant I watch downloaded shows on my iphone in an airplane? it says I have to "Turn off airplane mode or use wifi to access data" What am I doing wrong?

Not 100% positive, but it's more than likely because it has to validate your service before you can watch those shows.

Just like you cannot watch recorded programs on your DVR is the RG goes out.

Yeah, I agree. It's probably checking that you're still a Uverse U-x00 subscriber in good standing and have the rights to watch this show (perchance even to retreive the decryption key). Stinks for the airplane ride situation, but...

Look into another device, I think you can with Tivo, I am not sure on Slingbox but I have a Vulkano Platnium and it works very well. My device has been discontinued, I think they are still for sale online but here is the link to the newer devices, http://www.myvulkano.com/products.html.

clo1973 - Is it even a U-verse problem. Sounds to me it has to do with the wireless network. It saying you cannot use regular wireless (3g/4g) you have to do something special to connect via the airplane or connect via wi-fi.

Were you able to d any other activity via your connection?

I'm presuming that, since he's on a plane, he's put the phone in airplane mode. Which turns off all radios, including the Mobile voice, mobile data and 802.11g radios. But the app needs some network connection to talk to the AT&T servers.
