Upgrading from iPhone5 to iPhone6.

Do you take the SIM card from the 5 and put it in the 6?

You can if you want, but you may want to replace the SIM anyway. SIM only last a certain amount of time and then they start to fail. A new SIM is probably best.

There's a SIM in the new phone. I still don't have service in that phone.
Not sure if the activation was complete.

Try rebooting the phone.

Reboot as in power off or reboot as in resetting the phone?

Power off then on or press and hold power button and home button until you see the Apple logo.

Leave the new SIM card in iPhone 6, turn off old iPhone 5, call 1-866-895-1099, or go online and visit att.com/Activations. If you still having problems, go to a AT&T Corporate Store to help activate SIM card. I had similar problem, apparently the new SIM card was not activated, ( I know confusing) but rep at Corporate Store used a hand held device, flashed some light from it to new SIM card, reinstalled SIM to my iPhone 6, problem solved, phone works!😃
