never seen them replace a phone that is that old for free, the warrenty on a Ipgone 3 is only 1 year and normally Apple handles that

Hey doboybump41,
Do you think maybe they said you can get an upgrade? Either free or for as low as $.99? iPhone 3 (3G or 3GS) was discontinued over a year ago, so there is no remaining inventory of it anywhere, and warranty was always done through Apple, so it's confusing in a way, since AT&T wouldn't have this phone, not even for sale, why would anyone offer to replace one. Standard warranty on them is 1 year or Apple Care warranty is for 2 years, either way they would be handled by Apple, so if it's not the warranty, it must be an upgrade offer. Are you eligible for an upgrade?

Agree with drummn_bass, you probably misunderstood the replacement offer. No cell phone carrier replaces old phones for free, you were almost certainly being offered an upgrade and even if you get one of the "free" phones, there will be a $36 upgrade fee and a new 2 year contract. Also, despite whatever the message from technical services may have said, they don't just automatically send out new phones. You would need to place an order.

How old is the phone? If there is no warranty, insurance or upgrade, there would be only 2 options left, an early upgrade or retail price. If you call *639#, when does it say you'll be eligible for an upgrade?
