iPhone Unlock Will Be Undone If I Upgrade OS

AT&T originally refused to unlock the phone, saying it was still under contract.  When I asked to kick the issue up another level and pointed out that I had paid a penalty to upgrade from the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5, the AT&T representative agreed and unlocked the phone.  One of her last statements was to tell me that if I ever upgraded the OS, I would have to have the phone unlocked again.  That seems strange to me and contradicts everything I had read about factory (Apple) unlocks.  Has anyone else had this experience?

this question is out of curiosity .. why does it take 5-7 days to get an iphone unlocked?? .. is the process lengthy??

it is 7 to 14 business days. probably becasue they handle other things then just requests and research to unlock a iphone - the unlock is not auotmatic when yo request, they do a search to verifiy the phone actually qualifies by the posted rules to be unlocked

wouldn't faxing full purchase price receipt from apple store automatically qualifies for the unlock

documents can be altered, they stilll require verification of documentation, very few companies in the world accept face value without verification

I bought a phone shop in Russia where I find Tagoe who took him to Russia,
I checked (imei {Personal content removed for your safety}) says that it is locked and I was told that I should write to you that would have enabled

IPhone 4 S purchased at a small town shop during travels in northern Laos.

On return to New Zealand I have had the phone ratified as genuine by Apple, but they advise that it is locked by at & t.

As I live in NZ, I am not a customer and am therefore not registered and can't register on their  site as it seems  geared only for US citizens.

Can anyone help me with a physical e-mail address or phone number for at & t, so I can sort my problem out.

You have to use the unlocking portal.

Just select non-customer.  Note that since you are not a customer, the only way to get the phone unlocked by AT&T is to have bought it at a no-contract price from an authorized retailer and supply prood of purchase.  I suspect that regardless of the price you paid, a small shop in Laos probably isn't authorized to sell US iPhones, but you can give it a shot.

read and agree, fill out the form and wait for them to tell you where to fax your documentation, as long as you bought it for full retail price from an authorized ATT dealer and have all the paperwork to document it, it will be unlocked.

I recently unlocked my iphone4.  I would like to test if unlock really works as i didnt see the unlock message during backup/restore.

Anyone recommend a cheap sim card that will work with my iphone4 and test it.  I'm going to trash it once i test it.  So i need a very cheap plan.

But in the AT & T should be a database, which contains information about the purchase without a contract and that the phone was not stolen? How can that be? Who can provide the information you need to buy or copies of documents?

If you don't meet the requirements, it isn't going to be unlocked. No one here can help you.

Bought iphone 5 with full price , already register with online from to unlock it but they asking for the invoice by fax . The problem don't have any faxed machine here. Any staff from at&t can help me with an email then I can send an invoice to your email and you can help to sent to at&t service instead of fax ?

there are internet based fax servics available such as efax or myfax, they are chargeable but you can utilize them to fax the reciept as requested, there is no email address for the form
