Upgrade-unlock-return?

You'd better not do that. They won't unblock the 4 for you. I did the similar thing incidentally. I upgraded my iphone into a basic phone several months before the contract ended. Now they refuse to unblock the iphone for me unless I pay an ETF of $150.

I have locked iPhone 4 to at&t, I am not in USA now and I can't make any calls from my iPhone, because I it is locked and I can't use it with my local operators. Please someone competent help me with my big problem.

No one here in this forum can get your phone unlocked for you.  As many posts in this thread state, the only way to have it done is to call AT&T.  They don't do it via email.  Supposedly it can be done via live chat, but that option appears to be available only to those who have an account with AT&T.

You'll have to find some way to call them at the numbers that are in this thread.

My friends wrote letters to at&t e-mail and they have unlocked their iphones 4. And they have now unlocked iphones - my best friend Jason and my stepbrother Saimon. There in no problem must be here, on official forum at&t to connect with somebody who is competent in this question and who can help from at&t to unlock iPhone. 

Write to me in private messages that I could tell my IMEI to unlock my iPhone 4.

This is a costumer-to-costumer forum.

You need to contact AT&T on your own, by phone (already posted thousand times here) or chat.

Nobody here is gonna help you unless they're doing you a favor.

Your best shot is to call Support. Buy skype credits...

You can always buy skype credits and call from anywhere you are. And it's not expensive...

Don't get me wrong, this is just an advice. Don't wait for people to help you here.

I got my unlock request done this week... And I don't even live in the US.

I understand that you are not in the US, however that does not change the fact that somewhere, somehow you must find a functioning phone (any phone, it doesn't have to be the iPhone you want unlocked) to call them to see if it can be unlocked.  That is the process.  I don't know how your stepbrother or friend got their phones unlocked, but to my knowledge AT&T does not have an email address that will do that.  Maybe you can ask them for the address.

As has been said, this is a customer to customer forum.  AT&T hosts the website and moderates it, but they do not have customer service people here who respond to individual people's requests.  When you talk to people here, you aren't talking to AT&T.

It does nt matter if you are in the US or not - the only method of starting the proceedure to verify and unlock the phone is to call them, no amount of posting on forums or sending messages will work.  Get a skype account and call them they will take you information and send it to be verified, if you wualify you get the unloclk, if not you get a refusal.

tjis is a peer support forum, there is very little ATT envolvment beyond moderation and account problems, call them that is your only choice.

Smart or not, there is a set proceedure - you have to follow it, the first step of that proceedure is to call them, without that step being done there is no second step, it is a dead end at that point

should not be frustrating, they have a set of rules to follow to allow unlocking, his falls within the rules yours does not - wait until after august and your should be eligible

As a consumer service, I have every right to contact the supplier. In any convenient way for me. So, tie me to the appropriate person from the support at&t. And don't say that take the phone calls, because I haven't any phone here near me and my iPhone is locked by your company, by at&t. That's when you unlocked me, then the first thing which i make - i make call to you. But only when you unlock me. 
There is only one thing which you do very well - it is closed new themes and post unnecessary references to anyone. So, finally, get your hands and help me with unlock. Or, connect me with somebody who is authorized to decide this question.
Or, I submit for your company claim in court. And according to the law on consumer rights court will be on my side. In addition, you will answered for the waste of my time. All relevant documentation will be attached to the case, do not hesitate.

yup you are 100 percent right - that is a att logo in on the upper left hand side of this forum - that I will give you, but this is still not a valid method of getting unlock - you need to call that is it. The documented proceedure for unlocking the iphone is you call them, it does not matter if any other phone that att carriers can be done via email - at this time the specific reqirement is you call them, if you don;t want to clal them then excersize patience and maybe in 6 months or a year they will change that policy.

Sorry but you ending comments are not logical - unlike what ever country you live in unlocking a phone is not mandated, so you are pretty much out of luck there.

As far as deleting posts - any post requesting unlocking information on the iphone is merged into this thread, the message is intersperced into the thread depending on time posted - the Mods leave a trail behind on the messages that are merged, there is absoluterly no need for 10 million posts with the exact same request and response.

The carrie is giving cusotmer service, the only disconntect here is the simple fact that yu do not like the documented method to start the verification of unlock - was on the phone with cs for 20 minutes supplying answers for questions that game up in the steps - the unlock of a iphone is a lot more restricted then normal phones, if you where doing this via email it would take a lot longer and tie up valuable resources that could be utilized on the phone.

Follow it or try and follow through with your statement - although it would be faster and cheaper for your pocketbook just to follow the proceedure and call them.

Botom line - you want a unlock, follow the required proceedure

Why wouldn't it be frustrating?  Explain how dwill's iPhone 4 falls within the rules, but mine does not.
