How I can manage to unlock my iPhone 4 without an AT&T contract? I bought it in US without a contract but locked. Now I'm living in Russia and want to unlock it, but everytime I'm trying to access live chat, or get any support, you're asking for an Account (Phone number, billing address or whatever) but the problem is I don't have it, i still have a sim card but it doesn't work in Russia so it's impossible to find out what number it is (if of course there is one, because to my mind if u don't have a contract then u don't have a number too, right?) :-(

Can u help me please unlock my phone? What information do u need from me beside my IMEI number?

i don't have a receipt or something.

the modem firmware on the iphone is 04.11.08.

Im going through the same, I am not able to use the foreign sim, I got ahold of apple and they state that it does show unlocked at their end, but I still get the invalid sim card error. Apple opened a ticket for me.... 24 hours later I got ahold of the person who attended me yesterday and he still has no updates regarding this.

Hey man - well I decided to contact AT&T via the business chat, and resubmitted my unlock requests. I have successfully unlocked both of my phones now. I got the email instantly and the phones were unlocked right then and there.

Ok, I'll go through the chat this time... Hopefully they will resubmit it, funny thing is that I did get the email (The one with the attachment and the restore process through itunes) so im not pretty sure whats up. Quick question, did you do the restore with the ATT Sim, with the foreign sim or without the sim card installed ? The only one that goes through is with the ATT sim, the other methods get me the invalid/no sim card message.

Until they speak to you and verify all the information they have no idea if the devices meet the unlocking requirements, the system is in place to allow the correct verification procedures to be followed, just because it is inconvenient to you does not make it "ridiculous", just normal, proper business practices

I had two representatives tell me that - they're clueless. The chat representatives were much more helpful and successfully unlocked my devices.

att is getting worse than ever, this deal with unlock code is just a run around, I have a business acct and spend at least $10k with my employees while theyre on travel, of course some areas doenst have service, and since att dont have coverage, they cant provide the iphone unlock code. BECAUSE we purchase the phone less than 2 years, but kept the account for over 15 years, but instead trey transfered me to the manager, the manager of the manager and manager of the manager of the manager (LOL) spent 2 hours on the phone to tell me that Im not eligible, finally the manager AL refuse to help me and simply report me to FRAUD dept and suspended my account. R I D I C U L O U S, "fraud department" contacted me with hostile manner and asking stupid questions. This is the new att, RUDE, CARELESS and overcharge you

I guess the question boils down to this:

Is AT&T unlocking any phone that currently isn't under contract, even phones that never were under contract? Or are they just unlocking phones that were once under contract with them, but now the contract is completed?

The articles written about the unlocking clearly delineated the requirements. Phones currently under contract are not eligible. I can't get my iPhone 4S unlocked, but I can get the 4 it replaced unlocked (and have done so).
