iPhone unlock tool says phone was reported lost or stolen, but I am the original owner

I tried to use the online tool to unlock my AT&T iPhone 3GS, which is now out of contract. I receieved an email response that my phone could not be unlocked, because it had been reported as lost or stolen. I am the original owner of this phone and never reported it as such. Is there a way to appeal the unlock decision or otherwise verify that this phone has not been lost or stolen?

I would recommend that you send a Private Message to ATTCustomerCare is part of the AT&T customer service team, They may be able to resolve your Issue. You can expect a reply via return PM between the hours of 7am-10pm CST.

Also if the phone was on a family plan and you where not the primary holder of the account, they can report the phone as lost / stolen. where did you buy the phone?

I purchased the 3GS from an AT&T store on launch day in 2009. It was part of a family plan, but I was also the primary account on that, and that account has been closed for some time.

I contacted the ATT customer service team via PM and they were able to assist me in getting the phones unlocked. Thank you and to them for the help.
