iPhone 5 white not back ordered but black is??

Ok, I just went to a secondary link that someone had provided on these boards. Under the support tab on AT&T's homepage I just get "processing" on everything but, when I went to the second link it said my black 32GB is on back order 1 and my husbands 32GB white one is not back ordered! I am too annoyed right now to even tell my husband that his white one does not say back ordered because, I just know he will laugh that his is coming and mine isn't!!! Now, would they send them at separate times or would they both still come at the same time? I am going to be extremely peeved if my husband and my brother in-law (who completed his order within the first 10 minutes of the preorder!!) get their iPhones before me and I have to sit and wait! I hate this whole process and for sure will be going to camp out next time for a guaranteed phone
!! We opened a new contract so I would think they would have to come at the same time, no?

There is not real reasoning on this. Until you get a tracking number all the updates and changes you see are just noise.

I haven't seen any changes. The first link on the AT&T homepage has said "processing" since 9/14 but, the second link to a different order page says back-ordered 1 (black) and back-ordered 0 (white), so I don't really know if any changes have been made at all.

Until you get that tracking number, their systems are confussing and really mean nothing about how quickly your phones might ship. This is a real weak point in their systems.

Say that, the case really is that my black one will be on back-order, would they really ship his even if mine isn't ready?

As are all the repetitive threads about the status of "my" order.
I'm certain that we'll see a post within minutes of when AT&T begins posting FedEx shipping info. Until then, as youngjim says, it's all "noise."

This same exact thing happens every time there is a new iPhone release. For the life of me, I can't understand the obsession with worrying about shipping information 3 days out. At this point, there really isn't anything anyone can do except wait for it. Calling CS or checking your order status every hour won't make it come one second faster. Once they start sending shipping information, you will get your shipping info, or you won't indicating that you probably won't get phone on Friday.
I'm waiting for the next phase to show up, the panic when they send tracking info, but it doesn't show up in UPS's tracking system because all AT&T did was print a label, but haven't handed the package over to UPS yet. Then, when UPS does get the package and it's shown as on the move, then all the panic people will be happy again.
But, some people won't get the shipping notice, and we'll all get to hear their disappointment in detail. All over just a cell phone.

Don't forget that a few people might get their phones on Thursday, which will lead to heads exploding.

Just checked order status for a black 16GB this morning and suddenly I have a FedEx tracking number. However, FedEx has no information on this shipment yet. Staying hopeful for a Friday 9/21 delivery as promised.

I've always pre-ordered through Apple but because of my work schedule this Friday I didn't want the device shipped to my address so I opted for the AT&T pre-order last Friday morning and requested to be shipped to the AT&T store.
I was the first person to pre-order the black i5 last Fri to pre-order in the Lincoln Prk, Chicago store and I see the same inforamtion as you from both of those AT&T order tracking sites.
I never received an order status email update so this morning I decided to check into the issue by calling AT&T. I was told that their system shows that my phone will not be shipped until LATE OCTOBER! I was shocked consdering my pre-ordering circumstances. Needless to say the telephone support was not helpful in any way so I returned to the same store for more informaiton.
Although the sales person who began my pre-order "guaranteed' it would arrive this Friday Sept. 21st, he quickly retracted his statements this morning by denying ever providing such a guarantee. Maybe, at the time he wasn't realizing the ramifications of my decision as being based on his guarantee and pending a comet hitting the earth I assumed I could belive his statement. Or, he was just casually (repeating) this guarantee because he didn't realize how quickly the i5 would sell out? Regardless, I still pre-ordered within the first 10 minutes of the store opening!
In pursuit of a solution, an idea I feel like I had to help AT&T grasp, I politely spoke with the manager. She manager advised me to keep following the information on the two websites you've listed and by tomorrow at 5PM we'll have a better indication of wheteher it will arrive or not.
I'm staying optomistic because in the scheme of things this is a phone - one that I really, really, really, really hope to play with this Friday, but still just a phone. And, I think the universe will unfold in my favor for having done everyting right up to this point. With that said, this is supre frustrating though because I'm now babysitting this device status. For numerous reason, but most importantly because I'm moving cross-country, out of Chicago, in a few weeks which complicates a delayed shippment even more.
I was also presented the option of canceling the pre-order and waiting in line for the opening this Friday. This seemed ridiculous to me! Make a customer who's done everything right, while all the other pre-orders will be on-time, wait in windy 50 degree Chicago weather - two days ago it was 80 degrees out! I'd have to wait at the same store becasue they're the only one's who can cancel the order and fix my upgrade elligibility. BUT, there's no telling how many devices they'll receive the morning of the 21st, so I could obvioulsy wait in vain.
I'm working with store management to see that if mines's delayed while the other Friday, Sept 14th pre-orders made from the same location ship/arrive on-time this Friday, I could be allowed to come in and do the original pre-order cancellation / new purchase upgrade by essentially not being required to wait in the huge line...?

UPDATE:
Spoke with the store manager this morning and although I was the very first person to per-order last week, mine will not be shipped until late October. I asked this this was solely an issue my order was facing and if possible would they be willing to earmark a device for me. He (very unconvincingly) said that everyone who pre-ordered within the first hour last Friday 9/14 at the same store will also be expecting mid to late October shippment delays. His explaination was that because Apple sold out so quickly that by the time we all came in the following morning when the AT&T store opened there was already a backorder situation.
This particular store will only be getting a handful of devices and my only option now is to wait in line! AND, for whatever it means, as of this morning, there's no longer a $218.00 hold on my account for the i5. So, I've apparently been screwed again by AT&T's general lack of organization and customer concern - we go way back! I can write a hilariously unfortunate book about my experiences with AT&T alone. As example, the time they "lost" one of our unlimited data plans only to give us the run around for the entire 2 years since. We never made any changes - they "lost" the plan! Still haven't gotten it back. So, for a while we paid overages on one line's iPhone data overages until we learned how to bow-down to the limits properly.
Interesting how AT&T's paired with apple...two companies with polar opposite approaches to handling customer issues. It's unfortunate but maybe karma since I kinda expected this to happen with AT&T.

okay heres story i went into the att store on 9/26/12 thinking ill just ask some questions. some dude got my mom to preorder the iphone 5 black 32 gb well the only reason she said yes was because the sales guy said i would get it in a week... newsflash he lied its been longer than a week . and my phone is still back ordered 1 and processing , oh and im leaving on vacation on the 26th for a week so if its not here by then att is a going to get a call they will never forget ![]()
