Heard good and bad about both phones.. The good, seems to be the better for S3.. Hearing it has WAY more battery life and better/faster hardware..
My iPhone 3GS is SO laggy now, that it's just not tolerable.. So slow to do anything, these days.
Opinions?

each phone has it's strengths and shotfalls, right now which is more important - get a new phone now vs ordering one and waiint a few weeks. Ipgone 5 would be a wait for availability

I really don't mind about waiting.. I just want to get the better phone, that's going to last the longest, have the best battery life, and not slow down, like my current iPhone 3GS (which has horrible battery life now, and is slow as heck)

I had a 3g and now have a 5. The different is night and day. speedtest app on the 5 is pulling 27Mbps down and 7.38 up. Its faster on my wifi at home but I don't wait on anything. If your going to compare, go to an AT&T store and handle both. I love the weight and size of the 5 and the battery life is much better than my old 3g.
AT&T's site shows the standby times to be in favor of the iphone 5 by 23 hours, talk time to be about the same 8 hours.

Thanks guys. Stuff to think about ![]()
Wait, you said they're both similar in performance? Even though the S3 has more ram and a quad core processor instead of a dual, like the iPhone 5?

Consider how invested you are into the Apple ecosystem. Do you have a lot of paid apps that you use frequently? Do you like managing your phone through iTunes? Do you use iCloud extensively? Are you able to forego a text messaging plan because you use iMessage (and so do your friends and family)? If you answer yes to two or more of these questions, I would recommend an iPhone 5.
Other things to consider would be that you are looking at quite a size jump from an iPhone 3GS to a Samsung Galaxy S III. Is that something that you would want? How often do you visit the Apple store for support for your phone? If you do visit the Apple store, are you willing to give that up? As of now, there are no Samsung stores for in-person support.
You can see from my devices that I would be biased toward the Galaxy S III. But there are many things to consider. Some reasons that I would recommend the Galaxy S III would be the larger screen, ease of integration with (almost) everything that Google does, and many neat little features that make the phone more user-friendly (such as stay awake and gestures).

The US Galaxy S III has a dual-core processor. The international GSIII has a quad-core processor.

Honestly, I have some free apps, that's about it. And I hardly ever visit the iTunes store. I use iTunes for my music, but that's about it. And I never visit the Apple store.

The U.S. AT&T version has a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon. Although it does have the 2GB ram. The iPhone 5 is slightly faster from what I've seen, but they're still pretty comparable.
Really? I wonder how that would be possible.. Being out hardware'd, and all..

I'mnot sure about the claims of the S III having better battery life. I have heard claims from iPhone 5 users who claim that they only get 6-8 hours from their battery, but I routingly push 16-18 hours on a charge. I have also heard of people claiming that their S III is dead before an iPhone 4 rouns out, but for me, my iPhone 5 finishes the day around 10% battery remaining, where my iPhone 4 drains the external mophie and takes the internal battery down to about 90% remaining in the same time, so the iPhone 5 battery lasts about 120% as long as the iPhone 4 for me.
Battery life has so many variables, it is nearly impossible to get a valid comparison. Heck, I've seen people posting their iPhone 5 screen shots showing that they've been over a day and still have battery left on the iPhone, so the range is somewhere between 6 - 30 hours, and that's a pretty big range. You could compare teh S III and probably find reports worse than the high end of the iPhone 5, and better than the low end, so you can claim just about anythign you want on which one has better battery life...

Stranger things have happened:

This was from my iPhone 4, back when I was using it as my primary device. If you can't read the image, it shows that my battery lasted 10 days and was down to 16% remaining. I will never get that out of my Samsung Galaxy S III. With little to no usage, I can get around 36-48 hours out of the SGS III.

So you're saying the iPhone 5 is superior to the S3 as far as battery life goes?
I've watched countless videos on youtube of these 2 phones going at it.. And it's so close.. But in some of the videos, or most actually, they're using a S3 with only 1 GB of ram.. and I thought it had 2. I also wonder what difference it would make.. And if the 2gb model would smash the iPhone in performance... since the 1gb model is apparently close.
Also, on the S3, I've noticed people complaining about its color saturation in the screen AND cameras being off..
I am clueless as to which phone to get.

Itunes music utilizes a different format the the norm, you might want to take that inot consideration, you might have to convert your music back to MP3 from which ever format you chose as the default in Itunes

I haven't used the iPhone 5 to judge the battery life on that. I will say that when I used the iPhone 4, the battery would seem to go down faster than the Android phones that I used at the same time. Phone calls especially had a bigger battery drain than my Android phones did.
Colors are brighter on Samsung's screens than on past iPhone screens. The iPhone 5 is supposed to feature brighter colors than previous models, so I don't know how they compare. I have no problems with the SGS III camera, but I'm not a camera buff so my opinion is not strong in this area.

I have used both...SIII has some cool features for advanced users and its own interface....Here it the Main Difference I See
1) Apple-wrapped in apples protective balnket the phone does what it does and well...It will not crash as much and is easy to set up new apps....Hardware is universal....
2) Samsun Galaxy - Hate this phone......when I click a comic book it should open in comic rack, not say file type unknown...It should be a system thing....IOS can tell...Crashes and Freezes are a way of life for this phone...Hate it....Put in the wrong app and the phone will constantly mess up...Play store has lots of broken and useless apps for a dollar...hate it...apps on IOS are way more stable...
Biggest problems is most apps..Including the browsers play to the lowest common demoninator of Android phone and give a mediocre experience...ITS THE APPS Baby not the phone....
My 2 cents...

I would expect an android/java-based phone (java apps) to require much more raw horsepower to be speed competitive with a native compiled-language based phone (in apps, anyway)
