so the question is, will you all be upgrading to an iphone 4s on at&t now, waiting for the iphone 5 early next year or defecting to sprint now to get the iphone 5?

Oh, and don't beling the hype before the announcement... as we all say a million times prior to Apple announcements, it is NOT reality until Apple makes the announcement.

debunked, two reasons it wa FUD

1. Apple just got out of a "exclusive" contract with a vendor that has a lot more capital for 1 year then Sprint will ever see in in 10 years

2. Sprint could not come up with that type of cash - look at their financials

Announcement today according to CNN radio (?) is that the new phone will be called the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5 and the release date will be October 14th. All three major will carriers will pick it up, they said.

But I agree with some of you - it is only rumor and speculation unless Apple announces the release date and carrier offerings officially.

But WB, Apple has announced that the iPhone 4S will be available at AT&T, VZW and Sprint for pre-order on 10/7/11 and officially released for sale on 10/14/11.

I guess it is official, then! I don't recall the CNN reporter saying that it was official, I just thought that it was another rumor. And we know that the people around here do not believe rumors unless they are proven or officially announced.

Either way, it's about time for a new iPhone!

I did miss the press conference. The recent release of the Samsung Galaxy S II has had me all excited lately, so I guess I haven't been paying very much attention to the iPhone 4S launch/announcement.

the iphone 4s really isnt too much of an upgrade. Sure, it will have updated software. one new feature that previous iphones lack. But hardware is the same except camera, I think.. I'm not sure if it's officially 4g. And, why arent they offering an LTE phone

Yeah, I wish Apple would have modified the body of the 4S at least a little bit, enough to distinguish a noticeable difference from afar between the new phone and the existing iPhone 4...

It's not officially "4G", either. I'm pretty sure that the new iPhone 4S will operate on 3G/EDGE only, anyway. An LTE iPhone is not offered yet because the carriers have only begun deploying true 4G LTE networks. My guess would be that Apple would rather wait to issue an iPhone that is 4G-capable so that the faster speeds could be utilized in more places and not have such a limited 4G coverage range at this time. It makes sense when you think about it.

As far as the body styling goes, I bet if they would have changed it people would be complaining that all their old iPhone 4 stuff won't fit and this was all a plot by apple to get people to buy new accessories.

My gut says those prototypes we saw are the iPhone 5. I think apple is waiting for the next gen LTE chip that is kinder on battery life. Mid 2012 is my guess.
