OK, so currently I do not qualify for a full early upgrade on the iPhone since I do not currently have an iPhone. I keep doing the *639# thing and it comes back I can get a discounted rate, which would be $399/$499, but not the full early discount. I am currently eligible for a full discount on 12/1/10.
My question is, do any of you remember if last year they caved and let us non-iPhone folks get the full early upgrade for the new iPhones?

Watch the Keynote on apples page. I think Steve Jobs says something about anyone with a contract that expires in 2010 being upgrade eligible. Not sure if I remember it correctly however. Hope it helps.

If I remember correctly for the 3GS the deal was that iPhone 3G 'early adopters'--purchasing in July, Aug, Sept '08--would be able to get the 3GS at the full discount in '09 if they spent $99+ each month per eligible line.

That only applies to current iPhone users.

Thanks to all who replied. That was what I was afraid of, that the full discount only applied to current iphone users.

It applied to 3G to 3GS customers and for the 4 customers this year. I think it's an exclusive just for iPhone users, possibly moreover for good credit scores.

i dont think that its only for iphone users. I had a friend who didnt have one and he bought the iphone 4 at the $199 price like 2 weeks ago with a upgrade. I thought i heard that they had the $199 price until the end of 2010 but i might be wrong.

They seem to not be offering that now. I've got an iPhone 3g and my upgrade is the 11th of Oct. I was told yesterday that I have to wait until then.
I guess that was just at the beginning. Also I have never been late on my bill and I've been with at&t for many years, so I would assume my credit is stellar with them.
