So I finally upgraded to iPhone 5 and I really love this phone. The only problem is when at home or at my brother's place I get no service. I get great service everywhere else. I'm talking about just inside the two houses, walk out on the porch and 5 bar LTE service. Walk inside and in a matter of seconds, no service.
I spoke with a CSR about the problem who was very helpful. After some troubleshooting she determined what I neded to solve the problem was a microcell. She explained that the microcell uses my existing HSD connection That I already pay for to boost the signal inside my home. She rebated my account for what the microcell would cost, which at the time seemed like an awesome solution, however what she failed to mention was that usage of the microcell device would count against my minutes no matter who I am calling. She also failed to mention that an unlimited usage plan for the microcell device would cost me $20 a month.
I fail to see the logic of this agreement. Either I can pay you $20 per month for you to use my HSD bandwidth that I already pay for to fix your network problems, or pay nothing and eat up my minutes while I'm at home using my phone with the microcell, which is where I use the phone the most if I had service. I never had this problem with my 3gs. My two other 4s phones on my plan don't have this problem. Now that I upgraded I'm the only one who can't place or receive calls not to mention data when I'm at home when I would probably be using it the most.
Once again I spoke with another CSR who tried to put 5000 rollover minutes to offset the minute usage of the microcell, but what happens when that runs out, all the while your device sucking up my HSD bandwidth? She also tried to offer me a $10 reduction in the cost of my unlimited text plan to offset the cost but what are we really talking about here?
I upgraded to iphone 5 thinking it would be the best thing ever and found that my 3gs worked better when I'm at home when I use it most. To fix the problem you want me to pay monthly or eat up minutes all the while using my HSD bandwidth to make it work. If I'd have known my iPhone 5 would get no signal in my home I would have never upgraded in the first place.
definition of upgrade
sincerely a long time AT&T customer
ps none of this addresses the same problem I experience at my brother's house

Hello elmarco38, I'm so sorry you weren't given the full details when receiving your Microcell. It is possible that because the iPhone 5 is an LTE device it is affecting the service in your home, but this isn't a definite. I really think more troubleshooting is in order. Can you please send a Private message to the link below and we'd be happy to have a manager look in to it for you?
