When will the pre-ordered iPhone 5 ship?

Hey all, I have a question for those who cancelled (or tried to). I called the 866-267-4510 number given for Orders and Activations, but when I put in my web order # I get transferred to an area that is apparently only open Mon-Fri. However, when I put in my phone # instead, I get prompted to the call center open 7 days a week until midnight EST. Now, my question is, should I wait to talk to that line my web order # takes me to, or should I go ahead and talk to the one open on the weekends? I have a feeling that I am being transferred to the 'regular' customer service line, and I want to be sure that I am talking to the right people. I am an upgrade, so I want to make sure any cancellation of my order is done properly.

Went off backorder 8 days ago. Last night finally got a tracking number. My phone is at dfw. I ordered late in the day on the 14th. 16gb white.

Nevermind, just called and answered my own question. The other area (Mon-Fri) deals with Premier, and I have to go through them apparently. The rep WAS going to help me with the cancellation until that came up, though, just so you guys know.

I called 611 from phone on Friday & was told my order could not be cancelled & that I'd have to wait until the phone arrives & then take it to an AT&T store. My order date was September 18. My friend ordered 2 from Verizon on the same date & only had to wait a week. :-(

I ordered my phone on the 15 and AT&T was not telling en anything I think I called shout 5 times before I took action. I called att and canceled my order which was not easy I had to say i would be out of town and I was in desperate need of a phone so I would settle for a different phone they said we can't cancel I said let me speak to your manager and that was the end of that. All of a sudden they had no problem canceling my order. Hung up called back and had a new girl that was much more pleasant reset my upgrade eligibility. I went to http://www.apple.com/retail/ at 10pm exactly and ordered an iPhone that I would be garmented the very next day For in store pick up. No first come first serve crap. Got my iPhone 5 about a week and a half ago. I wil never again go through att only apple. Hope this helps someone!

this is so discouraging. What is going on with ATT's shipping warehouse when crap like this happens.

I called and ordered through AT&T on Monday the 17th. Got my official order date of the 19th. Needless to say, I am still waiting. The lady who took my order said it was a 7-14 day wait. When the email came through that I accepted on the 19th it said 14-21 business days. I felt duped by the CSR but at this point, Tuesday the 9th will officially be the 14th business day so according to the email i accepted, everything is "on track". I guess I can just HOPE to get my tracking number Monday or Tuesday. Boo. 

For those of you considering cancelling and buying through the Apple site, I was one click away from cancelling my order order over the phone on Friday but I chickened out. I then tortured myself the next morning by calling the two closest Apple stores and not only were there sales at 10pm the night before but they both actually had several phones still available at opening for walkins. My fault for being a chicken.

  I was a 9/14/12 order and still backordered.  I ordered through premier(of course) and due to techincal issues followed by 3 untrained tech support reps my order was not processed until 9/21/12.  On 10/3 I was given a $35.00 credit for my toubles wich I was told is the best they can do.

  I am curious what other 9/14 order date folks are still waiting and what if anything did ATT do for you.

There are several sites that you can go to using google and you'll see people ordering iphone 5's from ATT over the phone and online as late as the 25th and they've been delivered. ATT is full of bologna and sleazy...

Well the store 15 minutes from my house has 16GB white ATT phones. I ordered through ATT CS and not through premier website. They said no one can cancel my order. Premier customer Service is closed but they cancel my order either because it was done through the phone? 

Anyone able to cancel their phone order and get the upgrade option restored immidiatly. I dont want to get two new lines and wait for my other phones and return them. Too many charges on my credit card ?

Anyone succeed ? ????

Mine shipped UPS. Will be here Tuesday as Monday is Columbus Day. White 16GB is still on backorder.

I do think this is mostly Apple's fault as far as the delay goes. AT&T has several places they ship from and thousands of stores to supply. I have no idea how they are prioritizing the orders except that it should be first come first serve in each model. Keep in mind that store orders process the same way so even though you may have called in the fisrt few mnutes on the day of the pre-order, the stores across the US were open and doing the same. 

Good luck to everyone and let me add one more tidbit of info. I have been with Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon as well as AT&T. Sprint was really bad service and I was roaming on my front porch. I had their service all of two weeks and cancelled. Verizon service and customer service was just as bad. T-Mobile's customer service was always top notch for me but their plans and phone pricing were very unpleasant. AT&T has always had great customer service for me when I have gone through Premier which I do because of my business. Their shipping, phones and plans have always been decent as well. The only down side is that everytime I upgrade I have to call back to have my unlimited (grandfathered) data plan put on correctly. Other than that, I am happy with them. I actually used to work for the in their long distance location in Dallas and then SBC Wireless before they changed their name. 

We all bought into a phone that is highly anticipated and there are only so many. Be patient, I know it is hard to do but in the end, it really is just a phone. It is not worth the anguish we cause ourselves waiting on it to arrive.

I went to the store, saw the 16gb black I ordered so I called to cancel and they said it could not be canceled but they emailed their supervisor to cancel it and I should hear back "soon". I cancelled the cancellation and came home frustrated only to find I had a tracking number already. I think cancelling is likely to cause more delay. I don't trust them to get the upgrade date fixed right. As it is right now my new phone isn't even here yet and it says I am eligible for an upgrade on June of next year. Only 8 months after buying my i5 and re-upping for 2 years.

If you call in and they tell you that they cannot cancel your order they are lying. IF you ask them to cancel they HAVE to cancel your order.

It's not Apple's fault- Verizon and Sprint aren't having these problems- they're backordered but nothing like ATT is- and from what I'm reading on Macrumors, Apple's forums and elsewhere Verizon and Sprint shipping is going smoothly...

You need TI take into account that AT&T accounts for almost 65% of iPhone  orders.  Thought I saw that number somewhere and it looked too high.  But they account for most.  Sprint is a low wieght contender.  No LTE.  Not to many iPhone upgrade there so I assume they have no issues with supply.  Verizon is the biggest cellphone company.  I'm sure they get more phones than AT&T.  

Att has sold the most phones from all three.  I will just wait another week hopefully if they have them in stock at the stores AT&T an get some. 

Called again and an hour after open  they still had some In stock.  Hopefully AT&T can arch up this week !!!!

Pre-ordered on September 17th ( premier ) black 16 GB, still no change in status:

"We'll ship your preordered items when they become available."  Order indicated would ship in approximately 14-21 business days.  So that was a lie.  Everyone I know has an iphone 5 except for me.  I'm laughed at b/c I ordered through AT&T instead of Apple / Verizon.  Went into AT&T store to follow up on the order ( in addition to waiting on hold for hours trying to call in ) and the rep said they couldn't look up the order b/c the systems were so slow - but then tried to sell me a iphone 5 case!!  No joke .. "Wow" was all I had to say

Disgusted I left.  Disgusted I'm still waiting.  Every single AT&T employee should be completely ashamed they work for such a revolting company.

I preordered through ATT on 9/19 for a 16g white phone. My email confirmation stated it would be 14-21 business days before I received my phone. I did get tired of waiting, my status was back ordered 1...so I called 866-391-0749 to cancel. The lady who answered was very friendly. she cancelled my order and reinstated my upgrade status immediately. The whole process took 3 minutes. I then found that a Radio Shack near me just rec'd a shipment so I had a phone in hand a few hours later. I did this on 10/4. I hope that sharing that number helps someone else.

Yes, that number takes you to the same place as the 4510 number, but it's an alternative if the 4510 number is busy. It should also be noted that this and the 4510 phone number are meant for AT&T.com online orders. If you ordered through another method (phone, store, ect) you're probably going to still have issues. I am going to go through the Premier area tomorrow (because I have to), so I'll let everyone know how that goes.

but my blk 16 is still sitting with back order 1.
