When will the pre-ordered iPhone 5 ship?

Mine did the same thing. There was a hold on my account for the full amount but dropped off after 5 days. 5 days is the max that someone can place a hold on your account. Mine still says processing so hopefully it is still on order but who knows? At&t has managed to mess everything else up so I wouldnt be suprised to find out that they cancelled my order all together. I ordered on the 14 th and have emails confirming it but when I went to the main order page to check the status it says it was ordered 2 days later on the 16th!!! I contacted at&t and they fed me a line that it said that because it took that long to process through the different systems that they use!!! At any rate good luck with getting your new phone. Hopefully it will be here before they release the next iphone! lol

Man you are stuck that happend to me but the backorder was back 0 the next day still pending for shipment and no one knows were it is. count 14-21 days and that will be the date you will gettign your i5. Slow servers .....is more like DEAD servers

Just adding my story to the madness here... I placed my direct fulfillment order on Wednesday, 9/19, at 6pm CST at an ATT retail store in Pensacola, FL. Are there any ATT insider experts that might be able to give me a ballpark estimate of when my phone will ship?

I will say though, that despite all the screw ups for launch day, it seems that many people who received the 14-21 day or greater estimate will probably see their phones on the early side of those estimates.  

Note:  i am not an insider, but have been keeping tabs on arrivals posted here on the forums.

same thing here, ordered 64gb white @ 03:00 on the 14th. Called 1 or 2 times a daysince the 21st as the online status states "PROCESSING". I had CS agents tell me that they have no idea, 2-3 weeks, and today was a topper when a CS agent told me the warehouse is waiting for Fed Ex and UPS to pick up. I just about lost it on that one, AT&T is not giving anyone information. It sucks I preorderd. i wanted to cancel and try online at Apple store for local pick up which they recently began, but now I am locked out becuae of thiis "PREORDER" that will be shipped eventually. AT&T you are supposed to be a communications company, why don't you communicate with your customers!!!???!!!???

I upgraded two of my existing lines on apple's site the minute I was able to do so on September 14.  (BTW, I have already received them both on Sept.  21)

Unfortunately, when I tried adding a brand new line to my family plan, an error message said that I would have to contact AT&T directly to add a line. AT&T's site was giving me many problems and error messages, so I couldn't order it.

The next morning at 7 am, I gave in and called CSR. I was on hold for at least an hour and a half. They were very helpful and said that my order will still be on time to ship by September 21. I was told to accept the terms thru the email they'll send me within 24-48 hours.  I waited and waited for this email.

After no confirmation email came, I called CSR that  Monday, September 16.  They didn't understand why the process wasn't completed and that I never received an email to accept  terms and conditions. It shows that I called in  September 14, but it wasn't processed so they had to create a brand new pre-order. This time I got the terms and conditions acceptance email immediately. My next email from AT&T on September 18, was that my order is processing and will ship within 14-21 days. Wen I called back to confirm, they said the latest will be the middle of October. The funny thing is that my original order that I called in on September 14, I received three days later and after I haoue second attempt confirmation letter

Lesson learned from me is to order it from apple or wait in line on launch day. I actually ordered another iPhone 5 with an estimated ship time for the last week of October thru Apple's site. 

I figured since AT&T is at the mercy of Apple on supply, I might as well go thru apple with an estimated ship time of late October. 

Which company is going to fulfill my orders first? Once one phone comes in, I'll cancel one..

I ordered mine at noon the 14th. No update, no word since. My account says processing. I called multiple times and finally someone told me last night its on back order. My father ordered his on the 14th in the evening to be delivered to the nearby ATT store and received his last night. Upsetting. I called and was able to cancel my order last night and will try my luck at finding one in store as I'm going away tomorrow and will not be able to get the phone anytime soon if they delivered after today anyway.

It baffles me that people expect any carrier to have a unlimited number of iphones to fill pre-orders when apple itself went to back order status within a couple of hours of opening the ability to pre-order. If the manufacturer cannot keep up with the demand why would you expect the carriers to be able to?

I just checked and my back ordered status now reads 0. I'm happy to see progress. Just for info, I've heard Apple has a deal were you can order a iPhone online and pick it up at a local store of your choice if it's available. You can do it between 10pm to 4am. 

 I tried it with at& t but it wouldn't allow me since I have a preorder already. It said I was ineligible.  I ordered on 9/15 but it shows I ordered on 9/16

doesn;t work that way in business - there is a allocated amount to online sales and a allocated amount to brick and mortar outlets, they don;t rob peter to pay paul in the world of business

a pre-roder is just that the ability to place an order prior to the official release date of the product, no where does it state that the product will actually be delievered on release data, just that you where able to queue up in line to either get it or get a hogher spot in the back order chain - that is waht pre-order entails, unless you can point at a official att or even a carrier document that specificly states that you have a promise that the device will be in your hands when it reaches it official release date

Its widely known since the beginning of these events that you don't pre order from AT&T for these very reasons.

Seasoned pre-orderers order from Apple.com. No system is perfect, but AT&T have consistently had more problems like this since the inception. Before this event, there were members here warning people to remember not to order from AT&T, but from Apple. Few listened, like they don't every year.

It makes sense to order from Apple. They're the manufacturer, AT&T is the carrier, who has to get their units from Apple. Why not get it from the manufacturer directly and cut out the extra steps, where more problems can -- and historically do -- occur?

I can predict, with exacting accuracy, that we'll be right here again next year, with the same admonitions, the same practices, and the same lamentations, ad nauseum, about having ordered from AT&T and what happened. People will be just as baffled, befuddled and shocked that they're having problems, and screaming that AT&T sucks.

I "pre-ordered" iPhone 5 9/18 (Tuesday) past Sunday I had an update "in progress" and it is still like that. I called and it's in back-order... Any one else pre-ordered on the 18th and has any update? Hate waiting!

Order confirmation email right away

Order didn't show up on "detail status" checking page until 9/21, and SAID I didn't order on that page until 9/21!!!!

Has been on backorder since 9/21

Updated some time during the night to refelect backorder 0

Anybody have any idea how long people are in this status before getting a tracking number now?

From backorder to ship, i think for me its been about 4 days to finally get tracking number.

You're absolutely right Slickrick. I had initially ordered from Apple on 9/14 and then canceled. I thought If I ordered from Premier it was easier to give me the discounts through my company. It also didn't help that couldn't make up my mind.

After talking to a At&t C/S (a very nice one) I found out that I could have ordered from Apple and still got my dicounts. I ordered very early also, about a hour after launch. I may not have had it by 9/21 but, judging by some other post I've read I would have had it by now.  

Oh well, my backorder is 0 now so hopefully I will get it next week.

Hmm AT&T's definition of preorder still baffles me. Is like they live in a different universe. It's fair to say that Preorder stock ran out, so AT&T should have stop calling it that after the fact it ran out. Also i see lots of people that are angry because they preordered on 9/14 and still don't have a ship date and some other people that ordered days after are getting it now.

@metfan53: mine went off "backorder" status on Friday, 9/21, and I still have it "pending" without a shipment confirmation or a tracking number.

At this point, if I do not receive any confirmation by the end of the business day, I am just going to cancel my pre-order with AT&T and actually order through Apple's site and do in-store pickup for tomorrow. This waiting is ridiculous.

1 of my phones are set to be delivered at 4:00 PM today. The one I ordered in the morning of 9/14  It went from 1-0 as far as back order on Saturday or Sunday. I didn't receive a shipping confirmation until after lunch yesterday. And will get it today. So I would tell everyone again that you should get a shipping conformation about 3-4 days after the phone goes off of back order and the phone within 4-5. That is just my experience so far however.

@Wilm182: That's what I'm hoping for, and why I said I have no problem waiting for the end of the business day today, since if I get a confirmation from AT&T generally that means it'll be here next day (generally). But, if I can just pick it up at the Apple store, no hassle tomorrow after ordering it on their online site and doing in-store pickup...may as well, right?

Ok, so we are all wanting the newest iPhone and are frustrated that we have to wait. Many of you posting are upset with the lack of communication from AT&T about your order. Stop and reflect on a few facts and maybe you will see where the anger should really be directed. Back in the day.. AT&T was the EXCLUSIVE provider for APPLE products, remember the original iPhone, iPhone 3gand 3gs?? Well in those days it was a little easier to get the latest device because only one provider offered the phone. Back then all other carriers - Verizon being the biggest- would do nothing but critcize the iPhone, its features, capabilities and the supposed "weakness" of the AT&T network. It was too small, the technology was available on other devices first, etc, etc...  What happened when Apple opened up the warehouses to other cellular providers?? Suddenly EVERYBODY wanted- wait- NEEDED an iPhone!! Apple's stock prices soared through the roof and sales hit record numbers, almost overnight. Many longtime AT&T customers decided to switch providers in hopes of getting 'better service', afterall the only exposure to cellular service we had was AT&T and surely there was something better out there. GUESS WHAT KIDS-- every cellular service provider is pretty much the same!  Apple sits nicely in the middle of the service battle, providing arms to both sides, not really caring who comes out on top because at the end of it all they know they will win. When Apple announces a new product, there is a larger demand than supply, ALWAYS. This is marketing genius, not a mistake. If Apple can keep people waiting for their product, more will want what they don't have. MArket research and past history tells corporations what the projected sales figures for a new product will be. By intentionally NOT producing those numbers, Apple keeps their name in the headlines longer and brings more attention to their product. So don't blame your cellular service provider for the fact that you are waiting for your iPhone- blame the manufacturer of the device, or blame yourself for wanting what everyone else wants. Does anyone really think disscussion groups on other provider site are not complaining about the same things?

I don't care what "preorder" means in the business world...in the real world, "preorder" means you get it befor the walkups get it...that's the whole purpose of a preorder...in the real world, that is.  Obviously, ATT does not live in the real world.

@handsintheskyYes that does make the most sense. I was told by 3 different AT&T reps that I could not cancel my preorder because I signed a two year contract. So now its all about sitting and waiting for the second phone at least!

AT&T Suck. The customer service is worst, i called and  disconnected when i started explain my nightmare. What kind service is this? Nobody can tell me anything, is the worst company ever. There is hope. I orderd at Midnight on release day- but there was an order issue w/the billing- so it was not processed right away.  As a result I did not get it last friday. The good news is, it shipped this morning and I have a tracking # and it will be arriving tomorrow .

In case people aren't aware, the mighty Apple's definition of preorder is the same as AT&Ts. They sold out of 9/21 delivery stock in less than 1 hour on 9/14. Anyone who ordered from Apple were pushed back 1,2,3 weeks or more. And yes, Apple is selling phones to walkins while other people are still waiting for their preorders. So, Apple is no better than AT&T regarding what the definition of a preorder is.

Where Apple is far superior is letting you know the status of your order and easily letting you cancel if you want to take a chance on picking up a phone in a store.
