I preordered on the 14th around 3pm EST. Mine finally went from Backordered 1 to 0 on the 22nd. Still is in the processing stage. I called ATT and they said Oct 4-15, but I think it's just a generic timeframe they are asked to tell customers.

It's a shame that the customers who pre ordered are left in the dust. Instead of fulfilling orders for customers who've already put money down for the product, shipments were instead given to the stores. Apple more than likely wants the media attention for the long lines at their stores, it's something tangible for positive media hype.

I see no advantage or incentive of preordering through AT&T now. Next time I'll take my chances buying from the store.

So Backorder went from 1 to 0 yesterday. Around 1:13 Am this morning I get a confirmation from ATT saying the phone has been shipped and get a tracking number. The tracking number led me to the FedEX website tracking page and it said it would be delivered by 3 Pm today.. I was shocked how fast that went. I was thinking it would be here Wednesday. As of right now they have kept with their word and it is on a truck out for delivery right now and looks like it will be here around that time. Originally the estimated time of shipment was 14-21 days and that should be from the release date. So I went from that to a 2 business day turnaround of it being shipped. I was upset at first for thinking I would have to wait until next week (October) for the phone to ship but then I realized Apple knew they would not have that many phones for the first wave as the manufactures had failed to meet Apple's demand of how many phones would be available. Nevertheless I am happy for the quick turnaround. Everyone should be a little patient. I am pretty sure that Apple gave themselves more than enough time to meet the demand.

I've pre ordered each time the new units roll out. Never had a problem. I get it on the same day as the folks who stand in line overnight, whatever. I just order online at the first possible time. This year, that was 12:01 PST. For me that meant 3:01 (EST), so I set my alarm clock for 3:00. By the time I rolled over, opened my app on my iPhone 4 it was time to order. I was back asleep by 3:15.

I like the iPhone. A lot. I understand the desire -- craze even -- toward it. But even I am not going to stand in line overnight, or even for hours. Especially when there's a viable option that I can utilize almost literally in my sleep.

Pre ordering is great. You just have to get in there early.

anybody else geting this? Perhaps because I'm a new customer? But I definitely signed it in store when I pre-ordered.

Backordered on the 15th and I'm still "In progress", "1" stage.  Now, with the latest news of Apple riots in China, who knows how long it will be!  I hope news coverage reflects the true FAIL that ATT has scored with it's "loyal" base.

Another thing I notice is that for some reason every year those who order from AT&T have a litany of issues and problems. They're here -- every year -- to post their experiences and vent. For that reason, I never preorder from AT&T.

I recommend apple.com or the Apple store app on your iPhone. Before pre ordering this go-round, many if the old timers here were warning folks, "ok, now. Don't order from AT&T." Most of us know bits not anything against AT&T.

I've been on every major network, having had cell service more than 26 years. In my opinion they're the best. But for whatever reason, the Pre ordering process just doesn't seem to work right. So we (the old timers) avoid it.

I understand and get what you are saying but that is not how its playing out. There is no rhyme or reasoning behind the shipment process.

Some people ordered well over the 60Min sell out and got their iPhone on the 21. 

But whatever I will just have to sit back and "just wait" like all ATT personnel I have spoke to keep telling me. There is no other choice for me. This ProOrder has diffidently left a bad taste with me and countless others. 

I find it comical that every time I have spoke to someone from ATT they always have the same rehearsed answer. "Im sorry for the inconvenience, but there is nothing I can do",

I just received my tracking number and it says it will ship via FedEx tomorrow before 3pm. I pre-ordered the 14th Noon EST. Changed from backorder 1 to 0 2 days ago. There is hope just hold out everyone.

Yes, it is frustrating to see no update in over a week when you use the AT&T Updater to track the progress. They should have set up a system to be able to pick one up locally if some stores had them available. I know someone here that didn't wait in any lines and just walked in one day and upgraded/purchased. That to me is not the best for consumers if a corporation already has had your money for over a week or more. Its not like they didn't expect a mad demand for this phone.

I'm in the same boat. Ordered online through Premier site on 15th and got a email comfirming that day. I got another email the 19th showing I ordered the 16th. Showing processing and backordered 1 sim and 1 Iphone5 64gB Blk.

This makes things even more frustrating. I ordered a black 32gb on the 14th at about 12:30pm CST. Still shows as backordered. I understand that there is a ton of demand, but their so called "first come first served" policy is proving to be utterly false.

I must say, between messed up shipping order, lack of communication as to the status of an order, and the inability to cancel a preorder and pick up in the store, I think it's safe to say I won't be preordering anything with AT&T again.

LOYAL ATT CUSTOMER- VERY UPSET

Here is my comment (new poster here). I called on September 14th at 930AM EST and spoke to Keisha. I called in my order because I wanted to make certain I retained both of my legacy plans. So, I am connected with her at 10:15. She is very helpful, but her "system" will not allow her to complete the order. She promises to have her supervisor (Ed Harrington) phone me back to complete the order. He does not call me. I call back at 11:00 AM EST and wait until 11:50 to be connected to Michael (employee ID ML 4005). He is able to complete my order at 12:46 EST. He informs me if I return the Terms and Conditions email I will be processed and be able to reciev my phones by the 21st. I receive the terms and conditions and return in within 30 minutes. So, the 21st comes and goes with no phones. My order in the system shows it was placed on the 16th, which is not correct. I make a phone call and am told...gee there is nothing we can do, all orders are backordered. So today I send an email to customer service, and they call me back. I am told, they ARE NOT backordered, they are just behind in shipping the phones and are shipping in thbe order of the returned terms and conditions. I ask her to check the system and she tells me it shows the terms and conditions were returned on the 16th. I explain that that is not correct and I have proof. She says, "Oh well, it must have been a delay on our end in getting your return processed." I know they are doing what they can, but this is absurd!!! I knew I shouldve changed carriers. I cant believe this and apparently I am not the only one.

UPDATE: After posting, got shipping date of 9/24. Now have tracking # with delivery by 3PM PST, today. Guess no one knows until it just appears!

Phone arrived this morning at about 10:30. It now safe and secure in a new Otterbox Defender. Being new to iphones, it is taking me a little while to get everything set the way I want, but the phone is awesone. Activation was flawless and fast. Good luck to those still waiting.

i ordered  4 of them on 9/20 they said that mine arent on backorder and today they told me we should have them in 7- 10 bussiness day ..

I bought the original iPhone 4 when it was first launched in 2010 and had no problems.  I checked on Wednesday the 12th, over 2 year later, and it said I was not eligible for an upgrade. I called and a representative said someone made an error and accidentally listed someone else’s phone on my house in the warehouse, but he could see that I am eligible, and he would submit a ticket to get it fixed. 

I got an e-mail Thursday night that it was fixed and I could order my upgrade on the 14th.  I tried to order, and it wouldn’t let me.  I called and after multiple transfers, multiple people promising to call me back within a time frame, and over 4 hours on hold, my order was placed.  I was told the person who fixed my account, actually screwed it up worse. Then on Monday the 17th, I got an e-mail that my order was back ordered 14 to 21 business days. 

I called the local store on the 21st, and they said they had plenty left in stock, so I tried to get one.  No luck, whatever they did to fix the screw up on my account, screwed it up even more, so they can’t sell me one in the store.  I called and spoke to representative who told me they could put a note on my account so that they could upgrade me in the store, back to the store, and they still can’t sell me one.  They said they can only sell me one if I paid $649.  This is just ridiculous.  I wasted over 4 hours on hold and multiple trips to the store and they can’t sell me an iPhone despite the store having many in stock.

I called again and asked for an ETA since they seem to have plenty in stock, and was told it will actually take about 6 more weeks because the factory that makes the iPhone 5 closed after a fire, so they will not be getting any more anytime soon, and the ones in the stores are reserved for people who didn’t pre-order, and because of the problem on my account that they created, I can’t get one in the store anyway.

I'm wondering the same thing - anyone order on 9/15 and know when they are getting the phone? The lack of information is frustrating. The store employee told me two to three weeks when I ordered it early afternoon on 9/15 but I'm wondering if it will come in that time.

I ordered a white 16gb on the 15th and received my phone today as well. I think its officially the second wave.
