Replace Iphone 3GS to Iphone 4 without renewing contract [ Edited ]

This is probably the last question I will do, I'm buying an AT&T iphone 4 from a friend after christmas break, I know the iphone 4 takes a micro sim card, So I want to know is This won't effect my contract will it? The iphone 3gs is no longer selling and I rather buy the iphone 4 cause it's a lot better and if something happened to my 3gs I just want to be safe about it.

No. Only purchasing a subsidized phone affects your contract.

Well if you don't believe kdfederer then I doubt you'll believe me or anyone else. They ARE correct!! If you are currently OUT OF CONTRACT and purchase a phone on your own (without using your upgrade) or by purchasing an out of contract one at full price through Apple then you will NOT have to sign a new 2 year contract. But you will need to go to a corporate AT&T store to get a Micro Sim for the iPhone 4. They may or may not charge you for the new sim card.

No it won't void your contract. When you get the iPhone 4. Please restore the device as a new iPhone. Next go to an AT&T Corp store and get a new micro sim for free, and have them update the line with the new device. If you are to far away from a Corp store (more than 50 miles) call into customer service and have them send you a new SIM card for free. Also have them update your device information. You should be okay. I hope this helps.
