My ability to send MMS on my PREPAID iPhone 4 has been disabled with the lovely new iOS 6 update <insert sarcasm here>. I cannot even express my frustration with this issue. Picture message will send to other iPhones strictly using iMessage. The AT&T data network does not longer send my messages. I get a "Not Delivered" error on my phone's screen. The option worked JUST FINE on iOS 5.1.1. So nothing has changed at all on my phone except the upgrade to iOS 6.
I've googled APN settings changes and am stuck on whether or not I should install them or not. If I do, I may be able to send MMS messages; I'm not sure. Also, it could screw up my phone even more and make me even more frustrated. Thinking about installing this APN profile in the post the fifth from the bottom here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4314114?start
Somebody, PLEASE help me with this. I never realized how much of an inconvenience it is to not be able to utilize MMS when unlimited messaging is part of my plan. My only other choice is to jailbreak/hack my iPhone to allow this, which I have NEVER considered and never have wanted to do in the first place.
If AT&T and Apple are going to play dirty, then so will I. Maybe I'll switch BACK to Android.

Unfortunately, Android is a better choice in your situation as AT&T doesn't condone the use iPhones on prepaid plans. It was just nice that you never had issues before.
You can try just modifying the APN, but if you actually have an iPhone 4 I would seriously recommend just jailbreaking it. It will allow you a lot more flexibility.

Hi,
I've been having the same issue installing the APN only allowed me to have data access but did not fix the texting issue. In fact, I contacted Apple support and we went through 2 hours of troubleshooting, including resetting netweork settings, and completely restoring the iphone to factory settings with no backup. None of this worked. I also tried downgrading back to ios 5.1.1 but apparently, unless you previously saved something called the "SHSH blob" BEFORE upgrading to ios6, than there is nothing you can do. I tried downgrading using a few different methods and was unsucessfull because I never saved the SHSH blog before I upgraded. As far as I know, and from what the Apple rep told me, there isn't anything we can do until at&t fixes the issue.
Good luck.

Hiya crystalmbk,
Are you using the iPhone on a prepaid plan or a contract plan? If it's prepaid. the iPhone is not supported on the prepaid network and so not everything will work as it should.

But the problem is, everything DID work fine prior to the iOS 6 update. I could send pictures and everything over MMS. I absolutely loved it. My iPhone was so quick at sending picture messages over the mobile data network. Now, it does not do it at all.
And for some strange reason, I do not think Apple will correct this issue on the iOS 6.0.1 update.

I was able to restore MMS on my prepaid unlocked iPhone 4s after upgrading to iOS6 using the following. Note that when an ATT SIM card is in the phone when it is turned on you do not have access to your cellular data settings. However, a T-Mobile SIM will allow access, so you need to get one. It does not have to be an active number. You can get a cheap prepaid one or maybe the sales person will be kind enough to just give you one. Note that these settings apply to prepaid GoPhone, I believe that the settings for post-paid are different.
1. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings (this step may not be necessary but it worked for me).
2. Turn off phone, insert T-Mobile SIM, turn phone back on.
3. Leaving the phone turned on, replace the T-Mobile SIM with the ATT SIM. Dismiss the "No SIM card" dialog.
3. Go to Settings > General > Cellular > Data Network and enter the following:
Data:
APN wap.cingular
APN Username WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
APN Password CINGULAR1
MMS:
APN wap.cingular
Username WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password CINGULAR1
MMSC http://mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy wireless.cingular.com:80
Maxsize
Profurl
WAP:
Username
Password
Gateway
Homepage
Port
4. Press the back keys (General, Settings) to exit and save changes.
5. Go to Settings > General > Cellular > and set Cellular Data to On. (MMS uses cellular data).
6. Go to Settings > Messages > MMS Messaging and set to On.
7. A restart may be needed.

I'm sure that your phone must be unlocked to accept the T-Mobille SIM. If you are prepaid, then you own the phone and ATT should unlock it for you free of charge, but knowing them I'm sure they will not make it easy. Apple may also be able to do it, and I think that there are also services out there that can do it for you. Try a Google search.
I purchased my iPhone unlocked at an Apple store so I could choose either ATT or T-Mobile, and easily use it in Europe when I get a chance to go. Many people don't know that you can do that. You just have to enter the MMS settings manually. Unfortunately I had reception issues with T-Mobile and I wasn't able to get MMS working with them, so I'm stuck with ATT. It annoys me that ATT would disable the ability to change the settings on a phone that I purchased outright from Apple - and it really annoys me that Apple would do that to a phone that I bought from them - with no warning! If they had said that upgrading to iOS6 would do this I would have never upgraded.
ATT, if you're reading this, why do you insist on making life so difficult for your customers? I don't need a data plan; why can't you just accept that and leave my phone alone?
You may already know this, but unlocking and jailbreaking are not the same thing. You do not have to jailbreak the phone (mine isn't) in order to unlock it.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Not sure if it's worth it from Apple, either. They likely wouldn't make it a simple process. So my options are to purchase an unlock code off eBay, purchase/do one of the Google search unlocking methods, or wait for the iOS 6.0.1 update, which who knows how long will take to debut. It likely won't even address the problem, either. Heck, it may even make it worse!

Looks like I will have to get my phone unlocked someway or another to try the T-Mobile SIM trick. It's not worth arguing with AT&T because I know they won't do it and they'll just lecture me on "iPhones are not supported with GoPhone", yadda, yadda, yadda. I've heard it all before.

You can't purchase an unlock code off of eBay. The iPhone doesn't work that way. Unless you are talking jailbreaking, they are unlocked via Apple's iTunes servers after the carrier submits a request for an unlock on a specific IMEI to Apple.
How old is your iPhone 4? It should be out of contract by now and eligible for unlocking by AT&T. Just use the unlocking request link in the sticky at the top of the forum

Thanks for pointing out that sticky thread, too. I did not know that AT&T offered to unlock customers' iPhones - period.

If you are using the iphone as a gophone, you are not supported by att, features may or may not work or they may just stop working - the carrier will not give you any support

I've spoken to apple and they said the issue lies with with att's prepaid network not working properly with apples fixes/ updates - so until AT&T fixes the software issues with prepaid we're basically stuck with calling services only- obviously unless you jailbreak
would not expect a resolution on that one - the phone is not supported on that type of account so they will probably never fix it

Regardless, only method I have found to work was the one above. Did the sim switch with the phone off. Also a reboot was needed.
Thanks for the post. I'm backing up my phone now so I can restore from here if needed.

So something has happened. I did the update for 6.1.4 a few weeks ago.
Everything was working fine till my data ran out. MMS will not work, but yet data is now
without me adjusting the APN?
The phones APN fields are all standard, and whited out. Now I have data working without any config.
No unlock.co.nz, just natively working.
Thats cool, but MMS will not stick.
I have only been messing with it for about 25 minutes.
Maybe I will try later and maybe im over looking something.
I even clicked network reset, and did all steps again. Only Data will work without any config.
WHICH IS AWESOME. But want those sweet sweet pics from the ladies.
Best,
JOSHUA

So if you look above I have had a issue with data/mms not working.
Running on a factory unlocked Verizon iPhone 5, 6.1.4.
After the data wasn't working, through icloud I restored my phone from 5 days ago.
Still nothing....So I hit Reset Network Settings....
After I did that, the phone natively just started working all data, and pictures!
I don't understand why the steps I did above, didn't work, and what did work was doing nothing.
So I basically now just put my sim card in, and go.... Is Gophone now supporting the iPhone 5?
When I renewed my data package today, the rep said " I see your using a iphone 5, thats great."
Figured they would at least haggle me...
Best,
Joshua
