I had to replace my old iphone 4 since it was stolen. I set up the mail account on the new phone easy enough.
I notice now that after I get mail on my desktop, the mail messages on the iphone 5 move to "Trash".
The iphone 4 didn't work this way and I didn't change any settings on the way my mail is configured on the client.
What do I need to do? I don't want the messages on the iphone to move to trash.

If you move a message to the Trash on your desktop, and it automatically moves tot he trash on your iPhone, then your iPhone is setup to use IMAP for accessing your mail. In this case, the mail is stiored on the server, and you just access it from all of your devices, so marking it read or moving it to the trash on one device does that for all devices.
If your old iPhone didn't do that, then you were probably using POP3 to access your mail server. Using POP3, each client downloads a copy of the mail locally, and marking it read or deleting it on your iPhone does not impact your desktop.
