Since its looking that Verizon won't be getting the iphone until 2012. I was thinking of switching to at&t.few questions.
1.i live in philly and hear that iphone experiences a lot of dropped and missed calls?
2. want to port my verizon cell#, but the contract isn't up until next year.Any advice?
3. what is the cheapest i can get for a monthly service with taxes?don't use many talk minutes.
thanks

1) I also live in the Philly area, and I have never dropped any calls on my iPhone 3G[S], or miss any calls in this area. As a matter of fact, I have yet to see my iPhone drop to an EDGE connection, it always stays on 3G for me.
2) Only way to avoid the ETF would be for you to transfer your Verizon service to someone else, although you can not keep your wireless number by doing so. Best thing to do, would be to sell the device that you are using with Verizon, and put that money into paying the ETF. Please be advised, if you want to port your number, do not cancel your service with Verizon. Simply sign up with AT&T, and once the number port has been completed, your service with Verizon will cancel itself.......
3) The cheapest "advertised" plan for AT&T, is the $39.99 voice plan, which includes 450 any time minutes with roll over. However, in the Philly market, they do have an "un-advertised" $29.99 voice plan, which includes 200 anytime minutes and 1000 N&W minutes (no roll over minutes are included with this plan). I know this plan is still available, as I just got it within the past 2 months.
Also, don't forget that the iPhone requires a $30 data plan. With taxes in the Philly area, you are looking at $79/month on the $39.99 voice with data plan, and $68/month on the $29.99 voice with data plan.
Hope this helps. ![]()

thanks for the info. couple of more question.
Since i can't port my verizon cell# because my contract with verizon isn't up until the end of the year, I was wondering if I can just forward verizon cell# to my new at&t#? How long can i do this and when you forward a number would they be able to leave a voicemail on at&t or would it be on verizon?
I guess I should wait until they release the new iphone in june.

Yes you can port your number over, i just switched from verizon to att to get the iphone 2 and a half weeks ago and I ported my number over. What will happen is the moment they port your number over it closes ur account with verizon and they will send u a bill for the deactivation fee.

You are welcome.
If you have that many months remaining on your Verizon contract, I don't recommend that you keep your calls forwarding to the AT&T number for that long, as they might end up closing your account anyway, and sending you the ETF bill in the mail anyway, and you would run the risk of losing the number that you want to keep. Your best bet is to wait until June like you said, and port the number over to AT&T then. This way, you can keep your number, and get the new iPhone at the same time....... Now, as far as the voice mail question goes, when you forward the Verizon number to an AT&T number, and the call isn't picked up, the AT&T voicemail would get the call.........

can a cell# be ported over at a later date. I have 4 lines with verizon. It will only save me $9.99 a month.so i was thinking of keeping that line until the contract is up then port over that number then.

Yes, it can. You can set up a temporary number with AT&T, and when you are ready to port your Verizon number in, call the porting Dept. at 1-866-802-7560. The number that you port in, will replace the temp. number that you got with AT&T when you set the account up.
