iOS 6.0.1 is now available to download through the system's Software Update, or through iTunes. The full list of changes included in the software, according to Apple, are:
Fixes a bug that prevents iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air.
Fixes a bug where horizontal lines may be displayed across the keyboard.
Fixes an issue that could cause camera flash to not go off.
Improves reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks.
Resolves an issue that prevents iPhone from using the cellular network in some instances.
Consolidated the Use Cellular Data switch for iTunes Match.
Fixes a Passcode Lock bug which sometimes allowed access to Passbook pass details from lock screen.
Fixes a bug affecting Exchange meetings.

I await the inevitable posts that this update is the source of many user-caused problems.
For me, it installed uneventfully.

No mention about the issue of using cellular data when it should be on wifi many have reported. Does that mean it is not fixed or that there is no issue to fix? Perhaps there's an "undocumented fix"?

That didn't sound like the "using cellular network when it should be on wifi" issue to me.

Sometimes we see it one way but the root cause is how they describe it. I have been having issues with push notificaitons from from and exchange account yet the fixes for Exchange meetings may have my solution burried into it. In 6.0 my mail would litterly hang if my exchange account was set to push. Under 6.01, push is working great now.
In your issue, If you are connected to wifi that is setup as WPA2 security, you may drop the wifi and revert to cellular?

After applying 6.0.1, my iPhone 5 downgrades to 4G in a known marginal LTE zone.

Only way to truly know what the update fixed is to apply it. Little reason not to. Remember, Apple updates only fix what Apple thinks are problems. If Apple doesn't think something is a problem, they won't fix it. Also, there may be others issues that Apples is aware of, but they know it will take longer to resolve, so they save it for the next update. Point is, an update won't fix every problem people have, or think they have. Still, better to upgrade than not to, I think.

My iP5 on 6.0 would constantly drop and not find my 5GHz signal on Wi-Fi so I had to use the 2.4GHz. After 6.0.1 last night, I can use and stay connected to 5GHz!

If you don't, you can turn off wi-fi.
Wi-fi will always be priority over cellular data, unless you turn off wi-fi.

no, if i use wi-fi my phone also uses data like crazy. The update was supposed to fix it i thought, but it didn't.
You need to provide feedback to Apple via their feeback pages. They won't see this issue here. Posts on Apple's forums and there will get their attention expecially if there are enough reports. If it is isolated to very few, you may need to perform a restore and setup as new to see if you have a bad setting that is causing the problem and not an iOS issue.
