Ok, so I updated to iOS6... woohoo!! I'm still poking around trying to find what's new, but I noticed Google Maps is gone!!! O_O
Apple Maps or iMaps... w/e it's called seems like what GIMP is to Photoshop. (watered down) I got SO lost trying to get home. The streets it was telling me to turn on to didn't exist. I had to start ignoring the street names and just turn when it said to...which I guess I'll have to get used to.
Also, when I look at the map view vs. the list view for directions, the Street names are mostly all different. In fact, it looks like what's drawn on the map are completely different directions.
The last thing that's driving me NUTS is the address input. If you don't spell and format your destination EXACTLY correctly, you get a "NO RESULTS" message.
Is anyone having similar issues? How do I roll back to iOS 5??? Or is there a map alternative?

Maps for iOS6 is VERY buggy and provides inaccurate information, but i believe it is being worked on by the developers
There are other map alternatives in the app store, such as MapQuest or Waze which is also a good one

Google Maps just isn't built in anymore, but you can still find it in the App Store.

I'm not seeing Google Maps in the App Store. Downloading Waze now. It looks promising.

I'm having similar issues. Not only are the directions wonky, the maps aren't right. There are streets showing on the map near my house that I know aren't there.

Have you reported the mistakes/issues using the tool in the maps? It wont get it fixed right away but can help identify issues to them that will need attention.

They are working on a version but it hasn't been sumitted/approved in the app store yet. You were probably thinking about Google Earth which is different.

Waze is a little wonky, but it's a giant step up from Apple Maps.

FWIW--I have previously used multiple App Store nav apps (Garmin, Navigon, TomTom) on my iPhone 4; when I tested each of them by telling them to generate a route to take me from my work to my home, all three of them suggested a primary route that, although shortest in distance, does not follow the route I usually take to go home from work. Fast forward to the iOS6 Maps app on my iPhone 5--unlike the previously-mentioned nav apps, this one offered as the primary route choice the one that I do take to go home...go figure!

You don't really need an app anyway. Just go to maps.google.com from your browser. It works the same as the app. You can even install a shortcut to your home screen so it looks like having a separate app.

Since the original topic of this thread was about the iOS6 version of the Maps app, I'll offer that, IIRC, the iOS6 Maps app offers one thing the maps.google.com (as accessed via the Safari browser on an iDevice) doesn't offer/have...spoken turn-by-turn directions.

This is true, but spoken directions are useless if they drive you off a cliff. ![]()

Speaking of the iOS 6 Maps app--has anyone taken a really good look at its icon? Folks who live in the San Francisco Bay Area would probably understand it best, but notice how the turn indicator within the icon image has you making a left turn directly off the overpass onto the I-280 freeway...LOL! Now before someone offers that whoever designed the icon could squeeze in only so much detail (i.e., not enough room to add an on-ramp)...well in that case he/she could have simply drew it out so that it displayed a legal and/or safe turn from one street to the other, rather than displaying a turn that clearly indicates that it wants you to drive right off the overpass onto the street/frewway below.

3 words... "attention to detail".
