Lots of different ways to save battery on Android. But here are some basics:
1) Take screen brightness off "auto" and turn it down as much as you find practical. The screen is one of the biggest battery drainers on a smartphone.
2) If there is a WiFi network, stay connected to that instead of the cell data network. WiFi uses less power than the cell data network.
3) Turn off GPS when not using. Same with WiFi (except mentioned in item 2 above) and Bluetooth. But to be honest, toggling WiFi and BT can be a pain; and I often get close to 2 days on a single charge (low usage) with WiFi on all the time (even when not connected to a WiFi network half the day).
4) Turn off synch for services you don't use. Or for ones you use, have it only sync only when you open the app. No point in having things like weather, stocks, Twitter, etc. updating all the time if you aren't looking at them.

This is an app that I use ALL the time and it's free. You can set different profiles for yourself.
