Smartphone Newbie

I'm new to the world of Smartphones. I love my Samsung Galaxy S3 but I do have two questions. Will I be using up my data if I use my phone in the house with my WIFI? The other one is is there a way to turn off apps so they don't suck up data? Thank you for your response.

WiFi usage is not counted towards your data usage of you cellphone plan, as for the features, I am not sure but they should have individual settings for each app you can change independently (If I am wrong and I may be someone will be along shortly to correct me).

Go to Settings>Data Usage>Auto sync data. Here you will find some (but not all) services that may auto sync in the background, and set the sync schedule, or turn it off. As wilcre stated, some apps may require you to open the app itself to set or turn off sync.
