This is my chat with Samsung just now:
Russell: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: I was wondering what was going on with the gingerbread update for the Infuse 4G for ATT
Russell: I understand that you want to know regarding Gingerbread update for infuse phone. Is that correct?
Visitor: Yes
Russell: Thank you for the confirmation.
Russell: I will provide you with the required information on it.
Visitor: ok
Russell: There is an issue with the Infuse 4G update that affects a small number of users. We currently have put a hold on the update while we are developing a fix.
Russell: As the patch will be released for this issue, you will be notified by the carrier or you can check in our official website under download center.
Russell: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Visitor: The problem is only a few actually got the update. Kies Mini shows that my phone as unregistered but I have registered my phone through the Samsung website
Russell: Yes, this is the only issue some users are experiencing with and they are unable to update their phone.
Visitor: Why is it showing unregistered
Russell: I apologize for the inconvenience.
Russell: This might be issue with the software issue of the Kies.
Russell: Once the patch will be released then you will be able to update your device.
Visitor: Any timeframe on the patch being released
Russell: I am sorry we do not have exact information for the patch release. Once it will be released, you will be notified by the carrier or you can check in our samsung website under download center.
Russell: I would have provided you with the release date, if we had the release date information from our end.
Russell: I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Russell: Is there anything else I may assist you with?
Visitor: That would be it
Russell: It was a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!

-My only question is that I am no longer able to save apps to internal SD.
After checking my SD Card & Phone Storage settings:
INTERNAL PHONE STORAGE is shown as System Memory.
INTERNAL SD CARD is shown as USB Storage.
EXTERNAL SD CARD is shown as SD Card.
Anyone else having a similar problem.

Waiting for this "patch" is like watching paint dry. I know it doesn't take this long.

The only thing we can do is to keep waiting. Complaining about it or using third-party tools (which I consider to be hacking, since, in this case, someone captured what Kies mini downloaded when they technically weren't supposed to do that) will not speed anything up. I chatted with Samsung earlier today and nothing they said changed, which implies how we have to be patient for things like this.
Don't get me wrong. I too am eager to get the patch so I can upgrade to Gingerbread. But whining about why it's taking so long to release the fix will only make it seem like it's taking even longer, which will make you whine even more, just like babies do when they can't get what they want right away.

Sorry, I don't really agree with your assessment.
We are all entitled to our opinions, but Infuse owners were told by AT&T that we would have an update to Gingerbread by the end of 2011. To me, that is a promise by a company that I do business with.
If I told a customer of mine that I will have product to you by the end of 2011 and two months into 2012 failed to provide the product and an explination as to why I failed them, they would probably choose to do business with another company.
We do not have the option to do business with another company as most of us are in a contract. To me, this is a case of over promise and under deliver. I see the complaints on this board as customers, unhappy that the company they chose to do business with, promised them something and did not give it to them as promised.

Please find a statement where AT&T and/or Samsung says, "Customers who purchased the Samsung Infuse 4G will receive an update to Gingerbread by the end of 2011" and post it here.

"Customers who purchased an Android smartphone from AT&T introduced in 2011 can expect to receive an update to Android 2.3."
There you go. The text has been bolded and underlined for your convenience. Nowhere in the press release does it reference any time frame for the Infuse.
This is one of the reasons why I said that we must be patient and not get buyer's remorse (about the phone, its manufacturer, AND its service provider) just because the update did not come right away. If you look online, you will see a myriad of leaks for the Infuse, all that have Gingerbread on them. Why would you think that there'd be leaks all over the Internet? Is it because Samsung and AT&T didn't plan to upgrade the Infuse to Gingerbread or were too lazy to even considering the inclusion of the phone to the upgrade list? I think not.

The press release does list the Infuse, but it does not have any date or date range for when the Infuse's update would occur.
Almost seven months and counting though. ![]()

I'll have to get the website and its on this forum but there is a press release in July that said GB would be rolled out in August for several phones and the Infuse was one of them.
Nowhere in the press release does it say that the Infuse will be upgraded in August. Read this from the press release:
"AT&T* confirmed that upgrades to the Android™ 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform are planned for all post-paid Android smartphones already introduced this year."
This does not mean that the Infuse would be updated by the end of the year. It simply states that Android phones that came out last year are all planned to be upgraded. This includes the Infuse.
Now read this:
"Factors such as manufacturer-defined software and other device performance improvements result in each device requiring a separate update which will vary in timing."
The Infuse had various leaks that were spilled out on the Internet, which proves that Samsung and AT&T were working on the update. And now the update is technically released; it's just a simple matter of Samsung uploading it to its servers, now that the "unregistered device" errors are gone. And, mind you, Gingerbread has been released for four out of the six phones on the list in the press release. I'm including the Infuse within the four.
Who's to say that the upgrade was delayed? There's no evidence in neither the press release nor the Internet that supports how the upgrade for the Infuse was delayed. Numerous leaks, from UCKI4 to UCKL2 (the official ROM), have been released over the months after the press release was published. Why weren't those leaks the upgrade itself? It was probably due to people thinking that the ROM could be better and that there might have been bugs lying around, so they probably fixed it numerous times, eventually ending in UCKL2.

yeah the article i found pretty said the same thing.
the only phone promised in august was the atrix.
but 7 months later? got to admit that is way too long. both the infuse and the captivate.
my wifes sister just had a baby and think that they concieved the kid back when i bought the Infuse and was promised then that Infuse would get GB "very soon." but that was a sales guy and it was a pitch that ultimatley worked on me.....

I assume the Infuse will be updated to around November of 2012. Being they take so long to get the update out I doubt we will see another.

I figure the infuse and captivate are obsolete devices with the SII and Skyrocket SRHD and even the SIII coming.
Infuse and Captivate are history. Even-though still great phones.

You could also be possibly referring to the erroneous tweet about that one guy from AT&T who said that the Infuse will be updated by the end of August. If you are, we all know by now that the guy meant the HTC Inspire 4G, which was also updated in August, not the Infuse. Given how they have similar letters, I can understand how he got the two mixed up. Besides, given that all AT&T had said about the Gingerbread update for the Infuse before it was released was "We don't have any information to share right now," I highly doubt that the tweeter meant the Infuse back then, since it was the Inspire that had Gingerbread at that time of year, in August.
Like I said, there's adequate proof that Samsung had been developing the Gingerbread ROM for the Infuse. Please, do us a favor and look at other forums about the leaks.

And yes I know Samsung been developing the ROM. I mean that's the whole point of this thread was the announcement that GB was here for the Infuse.
I was close several times in just flashing a custom ROM from xda but just decided to wait.
And I want the official one thru kies. I just want the improved battery managment! That'll be so worth it.

By holding off updating the infuse. If you wanted gingerbread quickly. Samsung & At&t released the LTE phones. If you want customers to updrade or just outright purchsse LTE phones. If i where in charge of marketing for at&t & received bonus or commision on sales of the new devices. Why would i want to upgrade any phone firmware to make it similair to the LTE device. At&t wasn't upgrading the infuse until the gs2 & srhd launches were completed. Samsung is just the manufacturer. Like previous post have stated. Gingerbread firmware has been out since july 11.

Exactly executive, that is why everyone on any carrier is getting p*ssed about the direction smart phones and carriers are going in. They don't want to give you updates, they want people to just get a new phone instead when you arent eligble for an upgrade so they can charge you $600-700 for something that should realistically be about 200-250 without a contract. I mean I can get a really nice desktop for 600-700, heck my desktop runs amazing with my 22" monitor and together cost me 550, a phone is not worth near that much.

First of all, Samsung had a 2.3 update for the Infuse last year as Rodgers has been shipping Infuse with it since then. Second, the point of these forums is for us to be able to air our grievences. we have every right to, as you put it, "whine". AT&T and Samsung have strung us along. Every other phone on that original list has been running 2.3 for months but the Infuse is still 2 OS's behind.

ICS is barely out in the market. The only phone that comes with ICS, to my knowledge, is the Galaxy Nexus. There are three other phones that have been updated to ICS. The newest Galaxy Note came with Gingerbread, so in your opinion, that phone too is obsolete right out of the box, since it too does not have the latest version of Android.
While I am aware about how we can whine in these forums, it does not mean we have to talk trash about AT&T or Samsung or regret buying service/phones from them, which is what some of you have done. Even if we do whine, however, it won't make the patch be released any faster. To reiterate, let's be patient. I will not say this again because I can't stress that enough. Patience is key to everything.
Only time will tell if the Infuse will get ICS or not. I think the Infuse is certainly capable of running it. What do you all think?

I am waiting for Kies mini to say "Upgrade available" at which I will immeidately click on the button and update the phone. I do not wish to use third-party tools to hack the update process, if you know what I mean.

Now as for ICS on Infuse. I'm not an engineer on this kind of stuff but my only question would be the available RAM the Infuse has, would it be enough?
500 MB (and more like 429) be enough to support the OS? the processor I'm guessing would be fine even if it is a single core. But hey maybe that could be an issue too?

The minimum ram required to run ICS is 769 mb. Since Infuse has 512 mb ram(so as Nexus S), I don't think we are getting ICS. Even if we are to get it, it has to be value pack...

Just thought I'd check in to see if anything was new, but I see it's not so I'm glad I took a risk with the unauthorized update. FYI, phone has not crashed once in the entire week under gingerbread. NOT ONCE. While I am happy about it, I am also angry that I had to put up with such a horrible phone for 6 months while AT&T did nothing to help. This is why I'm angry at AT&T Lee. It's easier to be patient when your phone doesn't freeze twice a day while AT&T tells you there is nothing wrong with it.
You can appologize for AT&T all you want or try to lawyer it up by saying "show me where it says on your contract that the GB update was promised", but the AT&T sales staffed told me the update was coming soon and it shouldn't prevent me from getting the phone and their press release was in July. Maybe you're associated with AT&T and want to take out revenge on us whiney customers, but you have no argument. AT&T failed their customers in this case.
