I bought the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G yesterday from Best Buy. Except for being very busy, I was impressed with their rep that assisted us. Got everything going smoothly with no bumps in the road.
So, this thread is not about Best Buy. Instead, it's about the Skyrocket. What an impressive phone. I have a HTC Inspire 4G that is super fast as well as my wife's BlackBerry Torch. But this Skyrocket is ridiculously fast due to it's duel core processor. If you're contract is coming up for renewal, consider looking at this phone.

I won't recommend this phone at this time because Skyrocket HD is going to be released on AT&T soon (announced on CES 2012). Basically, it is the Skyrocket with a HD (1280x720) AMOLED screen, the same screen used on Galaxy Nexus.
As far as phone operational speed goes, sans the LTE network speed, Skyrocket is not the fastest Android phone on AT&T network. That honor goes to the original Samsung Galaxy S II (SGH-i777).
Basically, if you care about LTE, wait for Skyrocket HD or AT&T Galaxy Note (SGH-i717). If you don't care about LTE, pick up the SGH-i777.

Yup, the only positive the Skyrocket has to offer is LTE. This comes with major disadvantages:
1) Qualcomm CPU instead of Samsung Exynos - It's a slower CPU despite running a higher clock speed. Higher clock for less performance means more power consumption. (Remember the Pentium 4 vs Athlon XP?)
2) All current LTE implementations are horrific battery hogs. LTE = battery-hogging fatty of a phone. The I777 gets MUCH better battery life despite having a smaller battery (As long as you avoid UCKK6...)

Wow, sounds like I got screwed out of $200. I hate it when that happens. Oh well, might as well root it and get a better ROM. That should double the battery life at least. As far as not being that fast...I guess it's in the eye of the user.
Thanks foxbat and Entropy for letting me know how the Skyrocket is so misrepresented by AT&T.

I assume we are counting AT&T subsidized phones only
And when AT&T Galaxy Note release, it will still be slower. Yes, the international version of Note is faster but it lacks LTE.

Let's just hope GS3 gives us better CPU options with LTE.

I'm deciding between a Galaxy S II/Galaxy S II Skyrocket or just an older iPhone 4. If the new iPhone looks promising, maybe I'll hold out for that. But until then, those are my top three picks.

I had the GS II, and returned it for the Skyrocket. I will admit that the GS II seemed to have smoother video, but the LTE of the Skyrocket outweighed it. If you are in a non-LTE market the Skyrocket is priced $50 less and performance is nearly the same. The only thing I have against the Skyrocket is that the screen is a little bigger and a little harder to avoid accidently touching the screen where you don't want to.
