you should see a little microphone symbol on ur keyboard when u go to text
I have:
better keyboard: changed the color and themes of my keyboard
weather and toggle widget: makes it look like htc hero (clock and weather)
sms unread counter: shows how many msgs and emails i havent checked in the status bar
handcent sms: makes my texting thread look like whatever i choose ( i choose iphone layout )i can change the colors of the bubbles and the background of the thread too
and my personal favorite: remote for itunes beta: lets me control my itunes via wifi from my phone
love this app
love this phone!

How do you activate voice to text...I haven't figured that out yet.
You shouldn't have to activate it. It should already be preloaded.
It's the voice search app. The app should also be implemented on the google search widget as well and the Android Keyboard. Simple press the mic button the app will open and say way you want. On the android keyboard, make sure the voice input is check on.
Menu>Settings>Language Keyboard>Android Keyboard
Speech to Text is only on the Nexus 1. And if I'm not mistaken the feature will not be added on to the Desire. Unless it's change from last I read the STT is only Google phone exclusive.

Sorry guys...I got confused...Text to speech? Doesn't the N1 do that? I also have the N1 BTW.
Y'all keep throwing out the software suggestions...I'm digging the Helix2. I've downloaded that SMS program...gonna check it out too.
Also...do y'all use gmail on the N1? I'm not able to view pics in my emails most of the time. It will show a frame with a blue square, with a "?" in it . I look at the email on my laptop, and all the pics are there. At the bottom of the N1 email, theres options to "preview" and "Download" each pic...but downloading them, nothing happens. Is there a settings option in the email app somewhere I'm not finding?

ddavi, I'm a broke college student stuck on a family plan. I don't have any means to buy an N1 right now...I could hardly afford the iPhone if I actually wanted one. If I had $530 I wouldn't even be on this board right now cause I'd be enjoying my N1.

Text to speech is different from Speech to text. STT you talk into the mic and it translate your words to speech. TTS is vice versa. But both are installed on the N1.
As far your emails that the box with the ? means the email was sent in a flash format, so because Flash is not installed on the N1 yet, it's unviewable.
Also if you want to view your SD card on the n1, Astro File Viewer is really good to use. Make sure to also download Barcode Scanner and try it out. If you jog and need to keep track JogTrack is free and does not charge monthly like the AT&T program. Whatever that crap is. PKT auction is great version for Ebay. It has the barcode and if you scan something it can see if any products are on ebay for sale. Great use.
Oh and ShapeWriter is back in the market. IMO it's a great alternative to Swype.
visit nexusoneforums.net to get alot of great info and also get information on a new root call Ultimate Droid being developed by Blackdroid for this forum.

You can always do what alot of people said and buy an Iphone and sell it off for the money to get the N1. But I can't really help you on getting the n1. It's one of those afford or not type phones since it's not subsidize. I rather not go into much details about way to save a buck here an there on the phone services. I'd hate to see AT&T try to implement ways to block it out. Sorry.
If you got some older phones that are in good to mint condition you can go through http://sellmyoldcellphone.com/ to get a few bucks if you can't sell them on eBay or Craiglist. I had an Impression for free and got 130 from it on there. Result will vary depending on condition and popularity of the phone.

I just dumped my Pure for a Nexus One. Google sent it via next day air with no shipping charge. Nice! The AMOLED screen on this thing is beautiful. Maybe the nicest screen I've seen on a mobile phone. The only thing I miss from my Pure is being able to access web sites with Flash, via Skyfire. I believe Skyfire is working on an Android version, and hopefully Flash will become available for Android sometime soon. In the meantime, my life has been taken over playing with and admiring this thing! ![]()

For us, and future N1 owners...
http://androidandme.com/2010/04/news/android-2-2-i
I especially liked this part...
"I spoke with Google’s Eric Tseng during CES and he told me there were many secrets left in the Nexus One that we would discover later."

Search Aquarium Live Wallpaper. This might be the best one out IMO! I had to donate just for the great work put behind it.
Also checkout night earth and Substrate Live Wallpaper.
