I know I am not the first to say this but I will repeat briefly what I said in a previous post. At&t has no reason outside of customer satisfaction to give us the JB update before the arrival of the HTC One. To give the One X JB before this would be to cut into sales of the one X+. There is just not a ton of difference between it and the original One X to justify people buying the more expensive One X+ over the One X. We will not likely see this update until a couple days before or after the HTC One arrives. At that point One X+ sales will not be a driving factor as the One will be the new flagship. At&t is not trying to win customer approval which is why they are consistently at the bottom in terms of customer service. They don't care about being last. They care about making money. OUr best bet is to swear off of HTC phones or switch carriers all together.

Here's a small example from my personal experience, regarding what update delays and lack of communication do to companies. Back in 2010, Samsung released the Galaxy S, providing a unique variant to all four major U.S. carriers. Since the phone's release, Samsung kept promising that it'll be updated to Android 2.2, using terms like "soon" and "in the very near future". Since 2.2 has already been out for a few weeks when the phone was released, owners of this shiny new phone had no reason to doubt that an update would, indeed, be released soon.
Months went by without an update. Meanwhile, Samsung kept singing the same tune - the update will be out "soon". Many, like me, unloaded their phones while they were still worth something and purchased new devices. I was on T-Mobile at the time and had an upgrade; otherwise I'd have been stuck with the Vibrant. Many others, on the other hand, became extremely disgruntled and began what became known as the #NeverAgain campaign. Everyone was swearing off Samsung devices. The campaign gained so much traction that it became a major PR disaster for Samsung. To save face, Samsung actually had to make an official statement on the situation and the updates were eventually pushed out.
Did the campaign work? I'm sure it played a part in forcing Samsung to finally push out the update. As for never buying Samsung again, my next two phones were HTC. With the GS3, Samsung stepped up their game big time, so I gave them another chance.
The biggest issue that's causing the HOX update delay is that the phone is exclusive to AT&T and doesn't have a direct competitor. Since the GS3 was released on all four major carriers (and a few minor ones), carriers are compelled to speed up the update "testing" and subsequent release, in order to avoid competitors luring away potential customers with "come to us, we also have the GS3 and ours has Jellybean". With the HOX, AT&T doesn't have this issue, so they treat the phone like a red-headed stepchild.
Here's the tl;dr version: make your voices as loud as possible and don't buy carrier exclusives.

I'm not sure that a company as large as AT&T is too worried about a specific user base being upset. If they are, it's not obvious.
I'm guessing the more tech savy folks who are interested in software updates for a specific device may be a small percentage of customers. If that's true, what motvation does AT&T have to act any quicker or more aggressiviely engage customers about this specific issue?

I am an HTC One X subscriber on AT&T service and I'm finally going to break down and root. I think this issue is very simple:
1. Hollow Threats - If you have this phone you got it when it came out circa May 2012 or later. AT&T knows they have basically 18 months until any of us have to renew. So saying we're going to leave won't resonate so well.
2. Device Monopoly - AT&T locked this phone up as the only US carrier. That means they don't have to compete to keep cutomers happy. If this wan't an exclusive phone we'd be getting more attention. I think this more than anything is what takes our power away as consumers.
3. Pushing Similar Devices - Project butter on 4.1 OS makes the phone run smoother. Given they have a monopoly on the One X handset why wouldn't they want to make the older phone perform crappier in the stores when they are trying to push the One X+. I'm sure AT&T can secure a better margin with the $200 price point on the One X+.
4. Development Resources for Bloatware and certification - Given the above conditions. Why would they push more resources to make things happen faster? They understaffed this thing because they knew they could get away with it. Now, even if they want to put more people on it, it probably doesn't get the upgrade out faster. They started too late with too little resources.
Can we really damage AT&T already terrible customer service reputation? Not sure, I hated them before I signed up for this phone so none of this is a suprise. Who doesn't hate AT&T? Always last in customer service ratings.
Is there hope?
Maybe... the one thing that has changed is that the internet allows users to speak with a common voice. A large power is removed from consumers when they are in a Many to One relationship with a company. If they lose me or you, here or there, the revenue doesn't really take a hit. This thread is the consumers only real tool. Embarrass AT&T on this forum. Let them know what scumbags they are, let the world read about it here and let tech journalism write about it. It's probably the only lever we have so keep posting everyone.
Hey, if any executives are reading this from HTC. This is what you get for going exclusive with AT&T. Monopolistic behavior. Whatever they promised you in return, I hope it was worth it because this is the last HTC phone I buy.
OR
...Maybe this is the most brilliant sceme ever to get people to sign up for AT&T forum. Time will tell.

For no responses except for we are working on it is [word filter avoidance] It is Pretty much March now and someone at AT&T needs to speak up. I could care less what the forum mods have to say(No Offense). The are exactly what there job titles are(forum moderaters.) They are not devs, they are customer service. They know squat of what is going on internally, if the at&t devs didn't think they were a joke why wouldn't they give them an answer. Sure the forum mods can make a call or two as to inquire what we all would like to know, however, they are treated as any other csr calling tech support for an answer( proof??? look at twitter facebook or call at&t and see the response you get, (the same laxed, watered down, bland answer you will get from the forum mods, this show they are out of the loop just as much as us.)) People need to start contacting the BBB about this situation. It shows the greed of at&t. At&t's build of JB needs a different bootloader (at least a locked down one) which may take more time; but three months, almost 4 months!!!!?! no way. I already purchased a nexus 7 for dev purposes and a nexus 4 will follow. Never again will I give you money for your equipment. I would rather stick a lit match in my retina. At&t better notice this is a big wake-up call for many of their customers, me included.

I “borrowed” a FB graphic from a former AT&T Project Management Division Manager to post here. He's obviously still dealing with AT&T...(from the other side.)

So....that tells you that the update is no longer in the hands of HTC, but AT&T. Now does that mean its not a problem for HTC who could be a bit more aggressive with AT&T, but lets face it, this is heading toward the same direction as the #NeverAgain campaign but instead of a cellphone manufacturer problem, a whole carrier.

There are newer Android features I rely on. I decided to buy my own LG Nexus 4, slip my SIM in and give it a try. Now I have android 4.2.2 on another nice phone and couldn't be happier. I'm disappointed I had to do that and I'm also disappointed in AT&T's apparent lack of follow through to provide updates for their phones. It almost feels like this phone is now considered a legacy product. I have ten bucks that says HTC One X never sees 4.2.
I agree 100%.

How many folks have reported this to the Better Business Bureau yet? Multiple blogs have reported that this thread is "growing larger," only to not get a (meaningful) response out of AT&T. And as previously stated, the moderator(s) here can't do much about it, except say to the executives that "yeah, the thread is getting longer."
The Better Business Bureau and other consumer advocacy groups (e.g. Consumer Reports?) may have better luck at cutting through. I'll probably file my report sometime in the next few days. Just curious if anyone else has (pretty sure I saw someone did earlier in the thread).
I'm just thinking that, while this thread is visible to those that pay attention, it likely hasn't been looked at by outside groups that could promote it more heavily. Sites like The Verge and Engadget only speak anecdotally to the woes of Android owners not getting updates on time, but both of those blogs really, really like(d) the One X, so perhaps they would be interested in highlighting this issue.
While I appreciate jamileh, I'm afraid her "megaphone" is clearly not loud enough.

I'm glad that other people are noticing the ridiculousness of this whole thing. Every other HTC One X in the world has Jelly Bean now except for the AT&T version. The excuse of "still certifying" is complete bull and AT&T knows it. It doesn't take 4 months to certify an update, especially when every other carrier in the world has already sent out the update in a timely manner. You'd think that a big corporation like AT&T who's been around for decades would have better customer service and be more conscious of its customers requests and complaints. The HTC One X was supposed to be a flagship phone, and AT&T is treating it like an old flip phone from 2004. News flash, AT&T: CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS FOR A COMPANY. And you fail miserably at it. If you don't give two sh*ts about your customers, you're going to lose them. And, based on not only this whole ordeal but several others I've personally experienced with you guys in the past, you DON'T care about your customers, you just care about their money. Customer satisfaction? Pshh! How silly, who cares about that, right? All that matters is that you guys are getting richer!

Also, like several others on here, I went ahead and installed the ViperXL ROM...it's so much faster and only took about 15 minutes to install and get up and running. I now have Jelly Bean on my One X without having to wait for AT&T to get their heads out of their butts! ![]()

The process to root and flash is fairly straightfwd. You should do your research, read everything at least twice. There are many different ROMs out there for our phone (the HTC One XL not One X aka evita). So learn the differences between them because some are 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.2, etc and of course they have different featuers and some may not have HTC Sense. So again, just make sure you understand the risks, read, read, read and follow directions to the letter and you should be good to go. And it can become addictive once you get comfortable with it.

I am honestly amazed at how far AT&T has let this go without some kind of response. I really think everyone should report them to the BBB. Put it all over facebook, twitter, instagram, everything...and most of all keep commenting on here. Surely once the comments reach a point someone somewhere will have to do something.
Maybe AT&T is making a game out of this...there all like "lets see how many comments we can get on this forum"...hmmmmmmmm
I hate you AT&T.

Personally I've thought about all of the options. I've unlocked bootloaders before, no big thing. I've rooted devices before, no big thing. I've flashed ROM's on devices before, no big thing. My dear old GPS challenged Samsung Captiavte was probably the best device I've ever worked with in terms of flashing ROM's. I sold it recently and the girl that bought it wanted stock AT&T firmware back on it but prior to that it was running ICSSGS 4.0.3 with no issues. The problem I have is I shouldn't have to do these things on a "Flagship Device" that's still under warranty because any / all of these things will void it. The bottom line is it should not come down to the consumer having to take matters into their own hands, HTC and / or Android should provide AT&T timely updates to their products. AT&T should then thoroughly test the updates and release them to the users as soon as possible. I'm probably going to order a Nexus 4 but with my luck and as long as Google / LG is taking to fulfill orders, the update for the HOX will arrive before it does. ![]()
