I bet A&T is going to at least wait one year from the release of this phone last May 2012 to attempt get people to sign up for another contracted phone:

@Jamileh - how about a ballpark like "March of 2013" - this is a four week time frame plus the other 4 months of "testing" - and you can always caveat that it's just an estimate. I think everyone would appreciate a general timeline and a committment that there will be an update.
Thx

Is this what happens with all upgrades to AT&T Android phones? I'm well beyond fed up. This update isn't trivial to me. I want to stay current in order for my skills to be relevant. I can't help users when I can only imagine the interface of their phones.
My wife's Samsung Infuse 4G (as well as my old one) is still running Froyo. Gingerbread was released in what, December 2010? She still can't get an update. This is absurd.
I was hoping that switching to an HTC (which have traditionally had a more timely upgrade schedule) would be a smart move.

At this point, the OS upgrade process will have to be a point of consideration when my contract is up. I think this fiasco speaks volumes about the importance that AT&T places on post purchase customer satisfaction.
It's funny to me that they offer such a large subsidy to get people to sign a contract, but then proceed to conduct business in a manner that suggests they are utterly indifferent towards retaining those customers beyond the initial contract.

I would just like to say that I too have been waiting for Jelly Bean and checking here daily for news about the update, but obviously to no avail. I won’t be fooled again with by AT&T… It will be Nexus next time for me.

It would be funny to find out there is a magic number of posts that triggers the OTA update for JB. But somehow I don't think that is the case. Of course we should complain to AT&T about better communication, better process for releasing updates, not installing bloatware (or opting out of it) and even providing unlocked bootloaders to allow us to upgrade ourselves, but there has to be a better way than this thread...maybe a generic petition.
However, if having the new OS is important to you, then do what you need to get the new and don’t wait for AT&T. I have seen plenty of complaints from others about other carriers and delayed updates (although I think most do feel that AT&T is the worst) so jumping won’t necessarily mean anything for your next phone (and don't think that you taking your family plan of 4 is going to really hurt AT&T's business)
Personally I love my HOXL and I love it even more that I am running 4.2. I am even happier that I am not waiting for AT&T’s 4.1 with their bloatware.
PS. Anyone else catch the irony in our CM's listed devices as an iphone and a windows phone. No offense jamileh and I loved that "date" joke

So I continued to post to AT&T's facebook page. I wasnt cussing, being rude, just asking questions. And they reported my comments as "spam" and now I cant post anything on their wall anymore....how weird is that....??
Kinda makes me mad not going to lie. I really think they need to get it together before they lose all their customers! Me included. I just want me HTC One X to be updated to Jelly Bean, I really dont think we're asking that much. At least give us a time frame. Something would be better than "I dont know".

I put Team Viper on my One X a little over a week ago version 3.2.3. They have released two OTA (Over the Air) updates and now I am at 3.2.5. The phone uses almost no battery and every update seems to make the phone faster. I am so glad I found a rom and developers that care about the user experience and making a phone work as good as possible.
I was really scared to do this but I am now ssssooooo glad I did!

The team working on certifying the update must have a rough idea of when they'll be done testing. Otherwise, it would be impossible for them to reliably manage their workflow and they'd never get anything done. The fact that they refuse to communicate anything outward to paying customers for fear of being held to a deadline speaks volumes about the kind of fear-ruled culture AT&T employees work under, I think.

Just wanted to add my frustration to the masses. AT&T has for sure lost me as a customer due to this. My sadness is that many people still believe this to be a problem with HTC. I personally love my HTC One X and would love to see it updated regularly. Seeing that AT&T cannot hold up their end will force to be exclude AT&T phones from future purchase.

I guess the only question I have left is: is there anything we, as the posters in this thread, can do that would help you recieve more information to pass on to us?
Thank you ![]()
Honestly, the bulk of this thread is great. The more valuable contributions it gets around why you guys want this update and how important it is to you; the better.

Couldn't possibly agree more. I was off contract for almost 2 years when i decided that I just had to have this phone at the subsidized price. Now I can't believe how stupid I feel. Guarantee this will never happen with AT&T again, and likely not with any other carrier even when I switch after my contract with AT&T runs up in May 2014.
Makes me quite thrilled that pre-pay providers (not the AT&T gophone stuff, but real standalone pre-pay provisioners like what exists in most of the rest of the world) are starting to pick up. They're going to teach these foolish, massive telecoms how to treat people right for a change. I can't wait to be able to support them

I'm certian I speak for everyone here when I say this: Hearing all the users who went with rooting their phone saying all these great improvements are supposed to happen to the phone, it makes me impatient. The fact that it is known that the update has been released by HTC to AT&T make me impatient. The fact that all carriers have released the update already save for AT&T makes me impatient. The fact that the one X was SUPPOSED to be a flagship phone that was supposed to get better attention, but lack there of make me irritated.
The Jelly Bean update is supposed to do wonders to the One X (esp in battery life, which is a major issue on the phone) and so users arent very happy because this hasnt happened yet and they dont want to void their warranties just to get these fixes.
As a developer that has background in QA I also know that putting a date on something that should be thoroughly tested is kinda hard because just when it seems like there is daylight and it is ready, something appears and it has to be pushed back through testing AGAIN. But hey, a semblance of timeline also pushes the sense of urgency, and guaruntees better satisfaction to the customers.
The major complaint in reality is that the customers are dissatisfied because their needs are not met and their questions are answered with general answers that in turn; leaves them(me included) with more questions and irritation.
So I guess that leaves me with these questions (which I dont know if you can answer):
Are the developers and QA in charge of this update aware that there is a pack of angry customers that by the day are getting more and more irritated to the point of leaving the company? (yes or no)
And:
Is there a timeframe that has been set as to when it may happen? (no date required, again simply yes or no)

Dear AT&T: As an example for how you should be communicating rollouts externally, see a tentative release schedule from Rogers here. I imagine if any dates slip, they'll manage expectations among consumers accordingly, something you could easily do if you decide to start handling updates in a professional fashion.

Great call. Not to undermine your post, but here's the link directly to teh Rogers forums:
http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumt
here's one fro Telus, too, with a convenient little footnote that the date is subject to change upon testing:
http://www.telusmobility.com/en/QC/Software-Update
I mean, really, this is simple, and would likely prevent a substantial amount of the disgust that customers are showing. THese are the tiny tiny little things that make a HUGE difference to customers. Who knows, maybe they even help keep other companies from being rated the worst service provider in their country.

I've been able to get some response from @ATTCustomerCare on Twitter. They seem to know as much or less than the Community Managers here.
Look, from my (i.e. The Customer's) perspective, there is no excuse for this delay. The OS, Android 4.1, works just fine on the HTC One X. It clearly works with AT&T's HTC One X+, using AT&T's software and GUI modifications. Samsung handsets from 2011 are getting Jelly Bean, on older hardware, among the wealth of other phones from AT&T that are getting Jelly Bean.
The outcry from the Community will only get louder as it continues to take a ridiculously long time to push this necessary update to loyal, paying customers of AT&T. There will be only be further complaining on this Forum, Twitter, and ultimately, the Better Business Bureau until we've got a timeline.
The HTC One X is a spectacular phone, but it would be so much better with the features I was promised when I purchased the phone in November. I want the features I was promised, as do all the rest of us.

One gig a month for $30 is you highest data plan? A very bad deal, do you work for CC?
Either way I am still looking to jump the sinking AT&T ship asap. This JB fiasco is only one reason and not even the biggest. For the second time in two weeks I got a voice mail half a day after it was left. I had great reception and was sitting at home the whole time. One was an important call from work and the other caused me to stand up a close friend. Totally unacceptable. Any other good providers people recommend? Straight Talk looked good until I found out they were Walmart (ugh) and I have had problems with the big V before...

Straight talk uses existing networks (I know there is one with at&t and one with t-mobile) but adapts your access through their pre-paid plans (that's how i understand it at least)
The different kinds of phones that can work are here: http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/shop/s

Is that so? Both of AT&T's customers who bought a Galaxy Rugby Pro must have carried a ton of weight to get their update so long ago... And people are either working on this, or they aren't. If 1000 comments will make the "team" work any faster than the 500+ in this thread already, then there it's something wrong. The only motivation they should need is the fact that it's their job. I personally don't care about megaphones, date jokes, or good intent. Results are what matter, and you and the "team" have failed to produce anything.

I do not think it is developers that are holding the update up. I believe it is executives looking at phone sales and the bottom line. They can tell how many customers get fed up and trade up with addtional costs....

Me too, as I will probably have the next update two year ahead of AT&T with the continued slippage. Who cares about the warranty anyway. I am buying all of my phones out of contract from now on and using Consumer Cellular which costs a fraction of the cost of AT&T with any reasonable number of smartphones on a plan.
Anway, these phones are not worth much in two years anyway, there is already two more phones more advanced than the HTC One X. The One Plus and the One.

Do you know what AT&T charges for (4) smartphones? And no I do not work for them.
