Not that ATT gives a crap, but my wife and I will be jumping ship to Verizon once our contracts are up. At this point, I'm less frustrated by how long the update is taking (although that IS a problem) and more ticked off over ATT's unwillingness to share information on timing with us. I can't imagine any another industry that would tolerate such neglect of its customers in this way. Frankly, it's mind-blowing.

For anyone here thinking anyone at AT&T that makes decision cares what you think then think again. This is a money business and AT&T has been behind the proverbial 8-ball since Verizon went LTE. AT&T even lied about a phone and called it an Atrix 4g and when in fact it was a 3g phone. When the law was chnaged to make it illegal to claim 4g performance AT&T was not affected here because they had Brand Named the phone as Atrix 4g thus making this exception legal. AT&T is not about satisfying anyone at this point, they are merely playing catch up to a currently superior management team and company.

If that wasn't clear to me when I first started monitoring this thread back in December, it sure is now thanks to the infrequent updates we've had from AT&T over the past few months, none of which make any mention of actually valuing us as customers, by the way. Truly sad performance, AT&T.

One would think that having this many replies on a single thread would warrant some kind of detailed response from AT&T. But that is apparently wrong. Good job on the horrible customer service AT&T!

Easy answer:
- Pay the ETF
- get a lower cost provider
- Root Phone
- Get a good ROM
- Be happy

Not sure what's going on and why ATT doesn't upgrade the HTC One X. The silence is very similar to how Asus handled the (not) upgrade of the TF101. Never said no, but they didn't . Officially has never been upgraded to JB. Users like me are enjoying the custom ROM after the warranty period is finished.
The history of the upgrades has neer been smooth (neither stock nor rooted). It takes a while and several patches to set. Since I use my phone every day and I expect that works, I prefer to have ICS than JB until is perfectly tested and working. The experience with previous upgrade was never satisfactory.
The changes between JB (I have it in my old Inspire and in the TF101) and ICS are not so significant, that we can't live without.
In a few months my warranty period will be over and the rooted roms more reliable, and if ATT didn't upgrade, I will go for a rooted rom as I did with the Inspire. But I don't expect that the rooted rom be as reliable as the stock ... in both Inspire and Asus there weren't, especially at the beginning and in the radio component.
What I am expecting as a customer is just a note from ATT, saying what's going on ... Yes/No ... 1 month ... 1 year ... 4.1 or 4.2 ... the silence is a pretty bad marketing strategy ... still love ATT LTE speed and talk and surf at the same time ... life are making decisions and in every decision you loose something ... JB or speed/GSM etc ... ![]()

The unlocked ones? Because they don't require carrier testing and approval, the updates get pushed straight from HTC

An HTC unbranded phone will get updates pushed from HTC.
An unlocked phone will most likely have to be rooted (in addition to being unlocked). For rooting / update instructions you can Google it as there are many sources. (posting them here would violate the use rules
)

AT&T, I refuse to let this go away. You need to see how disgusted your customers are with you. Anyone heard any other peeps about the update? I contcted HTC yesterday for the first time in a while, but they gave a phenomenally uninformative response saying that they plan to update the One x (though the ambiguity just allows them to fall back ont eh fact that th Int'l versions are already updated).
It's too bad there isn't a way of making this thread public so that the world can see how disgracefully AT&T is handling this and the level of disdain customers are developing...as if it were possible to get any worse than it usually is.

I have to say after two ROMs I finally found a great one. Let me know if you have questions. Rooting my phone was not that hard and now I do not have any of that AT&T bloatware. Team Viper 3.2.3 is very stable and has over the air updates. It looks just like the original rom except more stable, faster and has a ton of more options. Never going back to the stock rom. The next update will take AT&T another eternity anyway and these phones change so fast you might as well enjoy all of features possible.

Based on what I'm hearing from HTC (and what we're not hearing from AT&T), ViperXL, or another stable ROM of the like, may be the only way to go. Here's HTC's latest response to my begging questions for any information regarding the release, delay, status of update, and/or which company currently has the update...and for the record, i didnt actually ask if one company "finishes" first, the HTC rep just used that term on their own.
"Thank you for your reply. I wouldn't really say that one company finishes so much before the other. It's a collaborative effort that concludes when both parties test a build and it passes all quality assurance testing."
Not much here, obvoiusly, but HTC is still maintaining that it is involved the process, so still hard to tell where it's at. My guess is that ATT is really the one holding this up and that HTC is still involved because, well, they built it.

What you guys need to be looking at is that they sold us all the OneX, and didn't mention the OneXL or the X+ until nearly the day they released. I bought my phone in July, and the next month found out a newer version with JB is coming out. They will probably never release JB for this phone, since they now have two newer versions of it for i believe around 199, and the ONLY thing they have to drive the sales of the newer versions is the fact they have JB. If you give the OneX JB, nobody will ever buy the newer phones, since the minor hardware bumps dont justify the almost hundred dollars more you have to spend.
I get great cell service from ATT, but this is probably the last phone I will buy from them, and I buy all mine off contract, so their making straight profit from me. I will probably turn to the Nexus, because I bet this year they release an LTE varient of it, and i wont need another phone for years.

The employee even told me they should hire me and have me come in and train them hahaha. We just both stood there laughing for a minute.
I guess what im trying to say is dont be mad at AT&T for being an epic failure on the software front. Their main goal is $$$$, which they make on the cell plans they sell. They lose money everytime you go in there and sign another two year, and get a huge discount on the device. They make this up by hoping you pay your bill on time. I can understand why they have no drive to update anything.
This process, however, will start to lose out now that many of the big OS makers are making their own phones. This was a huge deal a couple years ago when Google pushed out the Nexus, and it will only get worse for them.

garretttv: There are a few ways to make this thread more public. Promote it on AT&T and HTC's Facebook pages and anywhere else you can think of. Consumer websites too, if they haven't covered the story already.

WASHINGTON (AP) — AT&T is announcing a tentative agreement on wages, pensions and other benefits for more than 20,000 of its unionized workers.
The four-year agreement covers members of the Communications Workers of America in 36 states and the District of Columbia. AT&T is not disclosing the details of the agreement until it has been presented to union workers.
The CWA confirmed in a separate statement Saturday that an agreement had been reached, but is declining to provide details.
The agreement, which must be ratified by union members, covers wages, pensions, disability and work rules. The union negotiates health care benefits separately.
AT&T Inc. is based in Dallas, Texas.

Nahh... I don't think that that would even factor in to this mess... That's a separate mess.
