Simple issue - my HTC Inspire's "Locations" application continually opens on its own. I have to exit/cancel this dozens of times per day and it is completely draining my battery, as well as interrupting my usage (it always overrides me texting etc). I can't find any solutions online and just have no idea what to do.
Can anybody help me?

What is causing it to open on its own? What exactly is it trying to locate?
If there is a settings for it, turn Auto-Update off, also turn off your GPS if you are not using it, it should be in settings

I don't know what's causing it to open, that's kinda the problem. It happens without any input from me both when I am using the phone (for other things) and when it is locked and not in use (I open the phone to find it has launched again). I'm not sure what it's trying to locate, as the screen it opens to prompts me to buy a licence in order to "complete the trip", and obviously I don't want to buy anything.
There is no Auto Update option that I can see. I have tried turning GPS off - instead Locations still opens, only this time with a message saying that I need to turn GPS on in order for it to work!

If its asking you to buy a license, it must be some app you installed or some app that is running in the background...check your background running apps in settings to see if anything that could be using your location (Settings ->Application Manager -> Running Apps)...your Inspire might be a bit different wording

I don't believe it's anything I've bought, as it's the "Locations"/"Navigation" application that comes with the phone. It's listed as "Location" in the phone's menu, no installed application lists in the base menu. It's right beside other menu items like "Personalize", "Call", "Accounts & sync" etc.

Yes I know, but try going to your application manager in setting and see the background runnin apps, (it even shows the running apps that came with the phone)....see if you see the "Locations" or something that may be causing it to come up...if you locate it there, click "Force Close" and clear all its data
Does the "Locations" app have a settings?
I am trying to find it on the internet I do not see any locations app...what is the purpose of that app? Does it find your location? or location of other people? Or is it part of Google Maps?

I have tried closing it from the application manager, but it just opens again later. It has some settings, but they're only whether or not to allow it GPS access etc (but when I disable GPS access it just pops up with that instead of the licence buy).
It's similar to Google Maps I think, but seems to be a HTC-specific thing? As in I think I saw it somewhere called HTC Locations or something. I haven't been able to actually use it, because it doesn't get past the "you need a licence" screen, for the same reason I can't tell where it's trying to take me.
So confusing! I appreciate your help, though, I haven't been able to find anything about it.

I did some research for you and found out some possible solutions
It seems the HTC Locations app has some connection with the USB Connection/Port...does ut happen when you connect your charger?
Here are solutions people have used with the same problem and has solved it for them
- Clean the USB connetion port and the slot at the bottom of your phone...apperantly dust in that area of the phone will cause that to act up....use a Q-Tip or Cotton Bud to clean any dust
- Try using a new charger and see what happens?
- Apperently there is an app in the app store called "Skip HTC Locations", and see if that will do it for you...install it and restart your phone
- Connect your phone to the PC and in disk drive mode, then finding the '.data' folder. in that. Simply delete the navigation folder. I believe that all maps or whatever were in that folder, which I assume can be replaced easily enough. Then reinsert the sd card or whatever, and open up the locatons app on the phone and reinstalled what was lost, and so far, all good!
