If you have not seen the headlines google and motorola have reneged on commitments regarding operating system updates for phones released within the previous 18 months and will not be updating the operating systems for virtually all motorola android phones for AT&T. They have claimed that they will offer a $100 credit towards a new phone if your newer model is not updated to Jelly Bean but you would have to buy a new phone which is potentially (probably in my opinion) without subsidy, potential early termination fees and virtually all of the phones offered also require switching to verizon. The only AT&T phone that will be upgraded to Jelly Bean is the Atrix HD unless they renege on that as well.

The commitment for 18 months support for operating system updates was made at google I/O 2011 in San Francisco. Feel free to search for and read any of the myriad of articles to confirm this, just use something similar to “android 18 months support” as a search criteria.
They are also ceasing development and updates for the various docks for phones such as the atrix 4G, atrix 2, etc., etc.

Thanks for the post! I wish I had kept my Atrix 2 now for the $100 rebate towards a newer Moto phone with the $100 rebate getting a new Moto from the list via Ebay makes the price decent!

Actually I think that you came out way ahead and that the $100 will prove to be a terrible deal:
Buying a "new" motorola phone at some point in the future will lock potentially purchasers into a new 2-year contract on a phone operating system that will already be dated by the time of purchase (jelly bean) with no googlerola support for future operating system updates and enhancements (key lime pie and beyond). atrix 4G and atrix 2 should have received ICS updates six months ago with an update to jelly bean being released before the end of 2012. Instead, googlerola now has abandoned current owners.
