The phone lasted 48 hours and just had the SOD. A lot better, but not fixed apparently.

Well, it's been 4 days since I did:
"....disabling the two clock apps suggested, and the google books, magazine, movies tv, qlik lite, and google+."
and have not had a SOD....
Maybe it is the two clock apps after all..
Remaining hopeful....

So, for the last couple of weeks, I've only had the SOD once every 3 or 4 days; but today I am back to frustrated with this issue. I charged my phone overnight (as usual) and it was at 100% when I took it off the charger. Within a few minutes it went to the SOD and when I rebooted, the battery was at 75%.
Come on AT&T - solve this issue with Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy series is the most popular in the world according to a new report. Get it right for the S2 users!

Note that a wipe out is not going to fix this. Even a new phone is not going to fix this. We've narrowed it down to ICS 4.0.4 as the cuprit. If you can get back to 4.0.3 and STAY THERE, you will be ok. Either root the phone and do it yourslef, or some have been able to get the ATT Service Center to do that for them.

Would someone from AT&T please remove the fixed check mark. This ignored, non addressed software nightmare is far from repaired or fixed. FIX THIS PROBLEM PLEASE!

Hi,
I am also the lucky owner of a Galaxy s2 which is shutting down spontaneously. It is obvious that this is a REAL problem and it does not help that JAMILEH says that something MIGHT be in the works. I have never seen a company dodge responsibility for a problem like I have seen here. AT&T is failing to take any ownership of this problem. My phone NEVER had any issues until about 3 weeks ago (ver 4.04) ... now it shuts down, gets warm, requires a reboot, etc. at least every other day. I replaced the battery to no avail. AT&T should certainly be working with Samsung on this issue and at a minimum be letting the customers know that it is a REAL problem and they are looking into it.
Mark my words, whether I get this resolved with a firmware update or not, I will NOT be renewing my next contract with AT&T. I will also never consider AT&T Uverse or any DSL product or any service they offer. Why do business with them if they will avoid all responsibility for problems?
As far as posters on this forum.... please do not post your "fixes" if they have not worked for a week or better. A fix that lasts 18 minutes is likely not a fix at all.
Thanks... I just wanted to make sure my name was on this forum for this problem.
Bob

If *all* S2s were doing this, it would be in the news. But it's not. I'm wondering what percentage of them are doing it, and what is unique about those phones.
Does anyone know someone with an S2 that has not been having this problem at all? (I don't). Maybe compare the version info in the "About Phone" page.
Further - about being in the news... can we get this into the media somewhere?

Sounds like everyone that has gotten replacment S2's still experience the problem after it makes you update to 4.0.4.
Mine continues to work with no shut downs or freezes for over a month now. Rooted with factory 4.0.3. I think the rooting keeps it from automatically updating to 4.0.4 which is saving me. Easy fix for AT&T might be to turn the 4.0.4 update off and let people roll back to 4.0.3. Even better, go ahead and give us Jelly Bean that works.
Still amazed that as easy as this is to understand, AT&T still offers no solution.

@geetarplayer
Typically, the number of people that actively complain or take action on a problem are a fraction of a percent of those that actually do have the problem. In this case, if there are a hundred people complaining about this problem, in all likelyhood, probably 10,000 phones out there have the problem. Not all elderly folks or kids know enough to complain to a forum, etc. Many people just don't do anything.

How can this be marked as solved when only "a fix will be available in the coming weeks"!!! Until it is actually fixed please uncheck that it is solved!

When the H is the fix coming? I, like everyone else here is fed up. Are you listening ATT/Samsung/Google? If I am forced to go to a new phone, I plan on going to a new carrier as well. Are you listening ATT?

"Go to Solution." Is that a joke? I have had the same issues since since 4.0... ATT sent me a replacement which does the same thing. After the genius at ATT told me that I had to update my wife's phone, it does the same thing. Oh how happy is she? Our contracts started in June, we will be moving to a different carrier unless something is done quickly. Horrible customer service.

As soon as my computer gets here, I will be rooting to 4.03 and riding out the test of my contract. Then goodbye ATT. The only way to make a company change it's bad habits is to quit handing it money.

How about a real fix instead of just lip service? How much longer do we have to go with defective equipment?

I specifically registered to add to the list of people who are experiencing sleep of death issue.
As with everybody else, the problem started with upgrade to 4.0.4

She said it's Samsung who pushes out all updates and if I was in warranty or had insurance, they would replace my phone, but since I did not I would have to contact Samsung for any luck on a new phone or working OS.
As far as rooting, is everyone going back to 4.03, because I saw a JB rom on the galaxy2root site.

I spoke directly to Samsung (when I called AT&T originally and they blamed it on Samsung and even gave me Samsung's number). Samsung rep laughed and said Samsung does NOT push out the updates, they only develop them for all of their phones, then they're pushed to all the companies that sell their phones and Google for propietary software (that we all dread!!!), then AT&T pushes the updates to us.

Can you or someone else point explicitly where on the Galaxys2root.com site info is on dropping back to 4.03 ICS from 4.04?? What do you do after rooting?
Thanks,
doctorwhen
