I've seen this forum referenced on other sites about the issue. That means we're starting to get a little outside attention.
I like the corporate idea, though I've read the CEO will respond to those with threats of legal action in an attempt to scare you into silence. If you go that route, please post the conversation here. This should show they mentality of what we're up against, good or bad. If true to form, I would expect the same customer service attitude I received on my last call from the Office of the President where he told me that they don't owe us anything, an explanation included. Anything above the ability to receive calls and texts was them doing us a favor. That ended up with an offer of a free S4 initially, then a free Note 3 when it's released. This simply shows that they're trained to never admit anything is their fault and to treat customers as a bother.

I agree Phil. Let's get back on topic.
Where in the Sam Freaking Freck is the 4.1.2 update at Phil??
By the way drewroth123, would you mind forwarding me that PM that was deleted from your post.

Phil, i agree this is going in the wrong direction, but it was not taken there by me. If archienj7 is really one of your employee's then i would be very ashamed as a compay about how he is speaking to your cutomers. Hopefully instead of bashing their long term customers At&t will focus on the real problem which is the update.
if anyone else would to see how this so called "employee" treated me, PM me and i will send it to you word for word.

So here's a question: I received the unlock code from AT&T today. Will unlocking it give us updates directly from Samsung?
No, SIM unlock just means you can put any other GSM SIM card in your phone and use it on that other network. The software is still the AT&T-specific software.
Theoretically you can root and flash a completely stock ROM based on the International GS3, but unless it has AT&T modem files & baseband you will not be able to connect to the LTE network. That would potentially "trick" the device and server backend into thinking it is an international unlocked phone, but even with that option I'm not sure Samsung's servers would recognize your device's IMEI and so know to push an update to it... Maybe there's some way for it to "check in" with Samsung, but not that I know of...
Plus, the updates pushed out directly by Samsung wouldn't match the CPU and SoC your device uses, so the updates Samsung pushes out would not work anyways...
Maybe a T-mobile ROM? They're pretty snappy at getting updates pushed out...
All in all though, if you're going to root and flash anyway, there's better options (in many cases) than stock...
Thanks. Right now I'm currently running 'Beans' rom build 15 which is 4.1.2 and it's really smooth and virtually bug free. Thanks for your response.

In regards to that whole cease and disist letter, that's all it is - a letter. Look up the difference on wiki between C&D ORDER vs C&D LETTER. The order is issued by a judge whereas a letter can drafted up by anyone. I doubt that a judge would waste time issuing orders on such a trivial matter. AT&T has plenty of overpaid lawyers that would draft up a letter to make it sound as threatening and official as possible. I did find AT&T's CEO's email addresses if you would like them, PM me. A C&D letter basically means nothing.
On another note, it is WONDERFUL knowning that our phones with stock 4.1.1 are vulnerable to the lock screen bypass hack and the other one that allows hackers to change the cryptographic signature of apps to gain root access to our phones. As of earlier this month, only the S4 was protected against that hack.

I received the 4.3 update on my Nexus 10 yesterday. Think AT&T will ever update the GS3 to 4.3? That's a rhetorical, question, by the way!

Im very dissapointed in AT&T.
Im convinced you can't win with any cell company. I really thought AT&T was on their A game.
I was so excited about the gs3, i left their rival.
For months ive been dead set on " im not going to root, im not going to root..i said im not going to root" I don't want to void my warranty however, a friend of mine has Verizon, who got their phone count it...3 months after i did, and still got the update before me...its not about the features that come with the updates, its the principal.
With holding what everyone else has makes them look really bad. They are loosing customers left and right, especially with all these cheaper pre-paid companies and will other avenues to buy phones and go with whatever company you want. You would think that they would want to keep what little loyal customers they do have.

This is an email that I sent to an address I believe is for the CEO. Hasn't bounced back yet, so I'm hoping it's legit.
I have been a loyal AT&T Wireless customer since the days of Celluar One (Before AT&T purchased it.) I have enjoyed the service I have received, and when ever I had a problem with my account it has always been remedied in a satisfactory way. My problem today is that I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which hasn't received a software update since late last year. All major US carriers have upgraded the S3 to version 4.1.2 (Verizion, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.) Along with some nice new features in the update (Multi Window for one) it also provides some needed security fixes. Any contact with customer support has resulted in mixed results. Some saying that they are waiting on Samsung to deliver the update, while others have said that the update is still in testing (Samsung delivered the update to all carriers in April.) Now that the S4 is available I am beginning to believe that AT&T has decided that the S3 will no longer receive any more updates, and this upsets me. So in the future instead of purchasing an Upgrade through an AT&T retailer, I may well just purchase my new phones through the Google Play Store, which would guarantee that I would receive phone updates in a timely fashion. Sincerely; Les

For what it is worth, both of the CSR's I have talked to since last week have changed the canned phrase to add "... by the end of summer" to the "AT&T is working with Samsung..." bit. Both said the eaxct same phrase which (with the addition) I thought odd and interesting; maybe the official response has been changed? But "summer" still gives them almost two months to drag this thing out...

I just uploaded the BBB response advising we still do not have a date and an hour later received this email. I hope this helps.
Beginning July 31, 2013, AT&T will release Android 4.1.2 software update with the Samsung Premium Suite for the Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747) via FOTA (firmware over the air). An AT&T notification of software update availability will be sent to those devices.
