Add a line then use old sim

Hey guys, I'm currently an existing att customer and I just recently upgraded my 2 year contract from a lg shine to an samsung impression. I was browsing through the new smartphone section and found the new HTC Aria. Since I just upgraded, the HTC Aria would cost me $380. I was thinkin if I could add a new line and get the HTC Aria for $130 and then activate it with my current 3g sim card then add the $15 data plan? (I'm not going to use the new line at all) Would att still charge me for the family/data plan that I have to choose when adding a new line? Thanks for your help
